Why Can’t Anybody Stop Savion Williams?

Williams is the best open-field runner of the class, can Moss dudes on contested catches, can line up as you primary short-yardage RB, can QB impressively, can take any touch to the house… why are we talking about him in late round 3? Sure there are some drops and mistakes–this just in: he’s human– but the possibilities are endless and the ceiling just about unlimited.

Cooper Legas First Career pass… Not Bad

Legas is a first-rate gunslinger with excellent downfield passing skills and touch. There’s a little something there–maybe you’d call in moxy– although he’s got some work to do on the simpler parts of the game. Expect to see him surface in a preseason or UFL game within the next two years.

Play(s) of the Year: Ja’Corey Brooks Pretzel GPS

This is a play you’ll basically always see called DPI;  you take the yards and move on… but one guy didn’t give up on the play. Brooks somehow continues to track the football, contorts his body and space shifts to make the catch. Brooks is a prospect who stands out when watching games, but focusing his body of work was an eye-opener. Strong, strong hands, snatches the ball effortlessly away from his body, works inside & out, takes the top off, gets open… honestly, he looks like the kind of WR the Steelers used to draft out side the top 75 picks who would go on to be a star for them.

Elic Ayomanor catches Travis Hunter and a TD

Isaac Te’Slaa only needs one hand

Te’Slaa had zero drops in his entire collegiate career… but it wasn’t for lack of trying.  In this video, it looks like he got bored with “easy” catches with two hands, so he decided to increase the degree of difficulty.  Even the Russian judge gave him a 10:

Cam MFing Ward

I wrote in a January 2022 tweet that Ward could be QB1 if he wanted to be that year. He’s 20 minutes of what could have been year 2 in the NFL for any team willing to tell Ward, “Hey come out this year and we will pick you no later than round 2.”

Jared Casey’s Big Night

Jared Casey was a little-used Fullback when, during a game against perennial nemesis Texas, the Tight Ends ahead of him got injured and midway through the contest he was suddenly thrust into a close game.  He responded by catching the first 4 receptions of his career, for 34 yards and a TD, then proceeded to catch the game-winning 2-point conversion to lead Kansas to an unheard of victory over the Longhorns.

The best part of the video is the part where Casey’s parents were filming from the opposite end zone and they react as they realize their son has made the winning play:

Nick Nash’s Big Day

I almost made an entire thread about just the former QBs from this class! Maybe Kennesaw State should have tried a box and one?

Unsung STs Heroes:  Ricky White Edition
Ricky White is about as good a punt blocker as there is. He had 4 blocked punts in 53 punt return team snaps in 2024. One resulted in a safety and one was returned for a TD by a teammate. Then, for good measure, he made the crucial tackle short of the 1st down on a fake put attempt and put the cherry on top by returning a teammate’s blocked punt for a TD. That’s all in one season!

GAMES OF THE YEAR:
B2BDirectionalState Upset of the Year: Northern Illinois vs Notre Dame
I can’t decide what is my favorite part of this game but I’ve watched it about 5 times.  Northern Illinois coach Thomas Hammock’s reaction to the big plays is worth the price of admission.

Directional State vs Directional State Comeback of the Year (Cooper Legas & Tulsa)

As I said before, Legas has some moxy, indeed.

Big Brand GOY: South Carolina vs LSU

This game kept South Carolina from the CFP–a tournament they might have been favored to win. It wasn’t for lack of trying as South Carolina dominated LSU’s highly-touted OL, and made huge plays on both sides of the ball. Then The Gamecocks stud QB Sellers got knocked out of the game and… well, you’ll see:
