Bonino is out with injury. Turris is new for the dickheads at center.
Penguins projected lineup

Jake Guentzel -- Sidney Crosby -- Patric Hornqvist

Bryan Rust -- Evgeni Malkin -- Phil Kessel

Carl Hagelin -- Riley Sheahan -- Conor Sheary

Tom Kuhnhackl -- Greg McKegg -- Ryan Reaves

Olli Maatta -- Kris Letang

Brian Dumoulin -- Chad Ruhwedel

Ian Cole -- Justin Schultz

Tristan Jarry

Matt Murray

Scratched: Frank Corrado, Josh Archibald

Injured: Matt Hunwick (concussion), Carter Rowney (hand)

The Predators have now become my most hated fan base. They have no clue what they cheer for. They haven't an idea what it takes to win at hockey. Horrible base that thinks because they show up that they are special.
Tired of the pretty fucks from Nashville and their fake Country music. Throwing fish onto the ice is lame.

Luke Bryan called Crosby a sissy and led chants that Murray sucked. Fuck him. Ever take an 80 mph puck to the face? Ever have a guy weighing 230 pounds collide with you against a static piece of solid wood and thick plexiglass smashing your skull? Ever get clipped when going 25 mph hour losing your balance and crashing into those boards breaking your ankle? Ever play a whole series with a broken foot?
No Luke Bryan stands on a stage and sings his lame songs exposing his utter lack of talent. And he has the nerve to call Crosby a sissy? Fuck you Luke Bryan.
And fuck the rest of those fake ass wanna be Country singers in Nashville who really are pop singers with a twang. They took a great genre and ruined it in the matter of a few decades.

Go Pens!

Probably Jarry. Murray was really good last night early but I thought he looked a bit rough later in the game. Hard to judge when the D is slow and unresponsive around your tender.
Sully has pulled the backup on these back to back situations prior and gone with #30 back to back in the past.

My most hated franchises used to be Philly and Columbus but Nashville has climbed over both of them. At least their base understand the game/history.

Only saw OT and shootout. Looked like a fun game.

Got a point out of it. I’m good with that.

Happy to get the point but fuck me let Kessel take the SO there, not Letang.

Pens are all over the place. Sully needs to regroup these guys

Kessel isn’t particularly good at shootouts.

Looked up stats, and these are a little old, but Letang was 37% lifetime vs Kessel’s 29%. Hard to ignore that discrepancy.

Overall those numbers are true but kessels shootout numbers have been improving. Plus are you going to discount that kessel has been the best and hardest working guy the past 10 games? That should carry some weight...much more than a guy who has been a mess this entire season.

Eh. Shootouts are one of the few things in hockey that are pretty independent from everything else. I personally wouldn't pull a guy off shootout detail because he's struggling in other areas. I feel like his biggest struggles have been with decision making. That doesn't really come into play in a shootout. Shootouts are basically a practice drill, and I'm sure the coaches have seen him be successful at that exact drill in practice over and over again this season.

I completely agree. In fact, I hate to see Malkin in there anymore. I would love to see what Geuntzel or Rust could do. Hell, they often score on break aways, where Malkin gets stoned. I would like to see Crosby lead off, with Geuntzel or Rust followed by Kessel

Yeah....what's Malkin's percentage? He doesn't seem to get it done on breakaways.

The Pens battle back from two deficits last night, one being multiple goals and you guys want to harp on about shootouts? Shootouts that rarely happen?

I understand why because it changes the narrative from a guys getting it done to one that doesn't by showing him to be superior in a much less significant category.

Hot dog and Malkin are carrying the offense and have for the past three weeks. On the other hand our best player and one deemed best on the planet(which I also believe) is mired in a deep offensive slump-11 games and counting without a goal. And how many of those games has he gone totally scoreless?

You want to look at one big reason why the Pens are ordinary? Because Crosby isn't getting it done offensively. The guy that led the league in goals last year. The guy who was the heart of the team that won the Cup back to back.
But carry on about how this player or that player sucks in shootouts by all means-that is the Pens real problem.

I just can't get that worked over Crosby right now. He's earned the benefit of the doubt from me and I find it highly unlikely that he doesn't break out of the slump at some point. If it's still an issue three months from now, then yeah, I'll worry.

I'm not worried about Sid either but...the Pens have been terrible offensively the past 3 weeks and that coincides with the Crosby slump. We surely could use some secondary scoring and some from the back end. The only consistent offensive players in those three weeks are Kessel and Malkin.
I can't really blame the back end because they are a mess and their supposed best player is a shell of himself right now. We could use someone like Guentzel or Sheary or Rust to go on a tear. I think any of those three are capable of such.

Yet the discussion today is about the shootout. OK, LLS I agree about your earlier response that the shootout is basically an extension of practice. Everyone talks about trusting Sullivan so when he sends Malkin out there for the first round and people bitch when he doesn't score then they are really questioning Sullivan.
Malkin isn't good on the SO IMO because taller, longer players can't break down as quickly as a smaller player. Malkin would be better served just pulling up fifteen feet from the net and firing his rocket of a slap shot at the net.

But the Pens problems aren't on the shootout they are more serious. The aforementioned lack of secondary scoring being one and the other is OZ possession time along with shotty defensive play in their own end.
Has anyone else noticed that teams are killing us on the back side/weak side of the defensive zone?
The puck is on one boards were the Pens are battling. Everyone is concentrating on that with their backs turned from the weakside. The opposition waits and sends a forward or defense man late through the crease in the weakside and they find themselves alone with an avenue to the goal and defenders reacting late or failing to turn in time.
I have seen that too much the past three weeks.

I'm beginning to think this team is taking it easy early because they know the season is a marathon and not a race. Though I find it interesting that with their scoring woes this season(27th in the league) that they drop 4 goals twice on Nashville which is one of the best teams defensively. Tells me the Pens can get to the level to compete and win when they feel motivated to.
If true it has to be driving Sully fucking nuts.

Anyway, it is Steeler Sunday-Go Steelers!
