Mahomes is not going to fall to us. Just not gonna happen. So what’s the story on Dobbs?

I would run to the podium for Mahomes, and I hate our edge situation, our CB situation sucks, safety is no good, Vince can't cover, and who knows which TEs and WRs will play for us this year. I also love Big Ben and hope that he plays forever.

Taking positional value into account, Mahomes is no worse than a top 5 prospect in this draft. He's going to wow someone into falling in love. I could see a huge surprise from one of those top 3 teams, but he is certainly unlikely to make it past AZ, Houston, or the Giants. Hell, any team with a good roster aside from QB would be interested if they looked at what he can do and not his floor.

Yeah. Mahomes makes the Texans a contender for the next 10 years.

Anyone else think the Steelers might be laying the groundwork for a trade down? It kind of makes sense. Colbert is on record saying (and I think truthfully) that the draft was very deep at DB and Edge AND that the Steelers were disappointed they only got one comp pick. A slight trade down offer from some QB needy team might yield a big dividend.

Same is true for Dobbs, once other QBs are off the board.

Hell, if they were really Patriots-esque, they could ask their 35 year old QB to make noise before the draft about retirement.

Mahomes would have made it to us a couple months ago. The press is too hot on him at this point and his value has increased. I like the kid. I think he is raw and has a lot of potential.

Dobbs sucks. The fact the Steelers are evaluating him makes me question their entire draft process. Bad footwork, pushes the ball, throws bad picks...just say "no".

Denver gave up a late 3rd rounder to move from 31 to 26 and select Paxton Lynch last year.

Based on that, the Steelers will probably get a 4th rounder from San Fran, Chicago, New York, or maybe Buffalo to move back into the 1st round. That being said, I'd lay down money that Trubisky, Mahomes, and Watson are all off the board when the Steelers pick.

Understatement. He double sucks. His inability to complete one single pass vs FL OK and a few others lost 4 games in 2015. The hail Mary vs GA was his receiver and luck. This guy males T Martin look good.

Didn't Tomlin say after taking Jarvis that he was an "easy evaluation" or something to that effect?

If that doesn't make you question their process...

Dobbs has Patriots written all over him. I think a large part of his slow development was due to crazy courseload-- I think he was a double or triple major in astrophysics or some such thing. I know he once apologized for a poor game, saying that his coursework had kept him up all night when he should have been prepping.

You can view that in a good or bad way. My guess is, he's neither as bad as he's made out to be or as good as this week's hype was about him. I think he'll be better than the comments in this thread lead one to believe-- if he's really all that smart, he'll be at least serviceable once he really focuses on his game and fundamentals. He can spin it pretty well.

Oh how I wish this were true -- but our "brain trust" is most definitely not this strategic!

He can't throw the ball. He's absolutely not an NFL arm. Jones' asst coaches wanted Peterman to stay and when he left wanted to start one of two freshman on last year's squad. TN is only relevant when it appears it has an NFL arm. They might have won the east last two years if they had an arm. Dobbs runs because he has to. If we draft him as a QB we're dumber than shit.

Did you see his pro day? It sure looked like an NFL arm. I don't know what his issues were in college but he has some awkwardness but his arm looks decent.

I sincerely hope that Tomlin isn't that easy to deceive, wasting a pick on a kid who might look good in practice. Mike liKessler to impress people with his perceived smarts. See Jones and Archer.

Oh, yeah-- like Jones and Archer fall on Tomlin but Davis and Hargrave don't.

They nailed Burns, Davis, and Hargrave. No doubt about it. That was last year though. Every year is a different process. If this year their scouts are telling them to look at Dobbs, that is retarded. Why on earth would we even waste a visit on that guy. I don't care if he wins the Nobel Prize in Physics, he isn't a good QB.

Maybe Ryan Shazier needed to borrow his razor?

Wait. I thought L Jones was just "serviceable." We need 'great' for a backup.

I am a fan of Mahomes.

He has a cannon and moxy.

He is a year or two away from a footwork/progression standpoint

You can't coach arm strength
Good to unreal touch/ ball placement
Ability to throw from any angle
Nuts the size of grapefruits
He also has a bit of bat shit crazy to his game...You miss a block or fuck up a route he may punch you in the throat. I like that

Josh Dobbs is well...A brilliant young man. He is a dual grad student in mechanical and aerospace engineering. I don't think he has the tools or desire to be a great NFL QB. I think he would rather man a mission to Mars than win a super bowl. Which is fucking awesome. I have nothing but greats things to say about Dobbs

A few miles from where I teach near Alpharetta where Dobbs went to high school there is a giant billboard with Dobbs in his vols uniform and this is UGA. country. Highly thought of kid. As FC said Dobbs is off the charts intelligence and character wise. Mayock during the combine compared Dobbs' arm motion to that of joe Gilliam calling it "whippy." If he makes it in the NFL I'll be a fan no matter what team he plays for. As an educator I'm a big fan of Dobbs and kids like him who work so hard and take advantage of all opportunities afforded to them.

Saw an article yesterday speculating this could be a Steelers 'smoke and mirrors' tactic for teams looking to get a QB in this draft at the end of the 1st RND. If true, this is something no one here has asked (to my knowledge) and honestly could be a very shrewd move. With the right trade partner looking to get a QB at the end of the 1st RND it could benefit the Steelers trading down or possibly even picking up a certain player and a mid RND pick, 3rd/4th RND. I know it's more a projection and very wishful thinking at this point. What came to my mind is, not being sure how desperate the Chargers are for a QB but let's say for discussion purposes they offer Ingram (who has not signed his franchise tag yet) and a 3rd RND pick in this years draft for Steelers 1. 30; would this be something worthy value wise for a trade?

Where was this article? I ask because I floated this idea on twitter with two Steelers bloggers

Surprised you didn't see it B2B. One of my go to sites is sportspyder.com. Usually have a little bit of everything/one. Anyway, here it is: http://steelcityblitz.com/2017/04/04/sc ... s-edition/
