Rumor is he will become the #1 game analyst for CBS, replacing Phil Simms.

Hate to see him go. Was such an entertaining player to watch. For me, he'll go down as one of the most underrated QBs ever.

On the other hand, Phil Simms replaced might be the best news in a week or so. Now, who can retire and replace Nantz?

How many games until Romo gets hurt in the booth?

Guy should go down as the biggest loser in NFL history.

He can only do regular season games. He'll choke trying to announce a playoff game.

Would CBS really push Romo to the top pairing without some seasoning? Trent Green was supposed to be the next big broadcaster for the network but he is still stuck at the third pairing.

I can't believe that Romo would walk away from the chance to make another 20 million this season, wherever he may have ended up.

Name 1 franchise desperate enough to pay Romo $20 million for one season...

He doesn't need the money, and his health is a pretty serious issue.

The only reason to keep playing would be for a ring. Is there a serious contender out there that doesn't already have the QB they want? Maybe KC, maybe HOU...anyone else?

I don't Romo's financial status but every week we read about another NFL former star(QB's included) who has gone bankrupt. Point is that walking away from a chance at that kind of money takes a special commitment- and if that is the case with Romo(being financially secure)then good for him.

If he doesn't retire and is traded his contract is worth what, about $19 million this year? Of course the team acquiring him could renegotiate that contract.
Denver could make it work, so could Houston or Cleveland and none of them has a QB of Romo's caliber. All it takes is one.
Then again maybe Romo and his agent explored this avenue and found that no one was willing to take the risk on him and he saw it as a way to move on.

Romo is not remotely in that tier. He made over $100M in the NFL, and probably at least another $20M in endorsements.

Romo is an avid and very talented golfer. His back is already fucked; why risk a debilitating injury for the rest of his life if he can make serious cash in the booth and play Augusta National with Nantz during the week?

i was pondering this too

one can see why he's considered a natural for the job (well-spoken, charismatic, whateverthefuck), but there's other ex-players i assumed would make natural broadcasters who can hardly string a sentence together (several ex-Steelers, in fact!)

but, as has been indicated, nowhere to go but up from Phil Simms

Imagine the AFC Championship pre-game.

Nantz: Tony, what's going through the players minds right about now?

Romo: ...I don't know.

Can always come back and do the Cowboys play by play. He does have a presence in this market and another child on the way.
