Do the deal. Artie Farty and Cootie are busts. Cards are cleaning house and looking for trades. He's 27 and in his prime.

If Patrick Peterson is dealt at the trading deadline (after Week 8's games), the acquiring team would need $5,823,529 of salary cap space (9/17th of Peterson's $11M base salary). Peterson has 2019 & 2020 contract years at $11.25M & $12.55M. https://t.co/81bt9s0zdm

Steelers can easily absorb that salary,

I see them from $8.7 million to $9.2 million under cap.

Just a matter of what would it take to get him.

They can always re-work someone's contract to g free up money.

And there is always the rescind Bells tag angle...

This is such an easy deal for the Steelers

They have the cap room and they have the draft picks

But of course they won't because "gotta learn the playbook".
Just like Jordan Berry has to be on the team so Boz doesn't shank his kicks

Just like Mike Mitchell has to be on the team to "fire the team up"

But this is a perfectly well oiled machine who has won the last 3 Lombardi trophies, so we have no need to improve at all. Everything is a ok in Aviator-land

You just wonder what it would take to get him. Artie Burns may be part of a package, but they’d probably want a high pick as well. Would likely have to trade or rescind Bell to fit the salary. Steelers likely wouldn’t even consider it, but it’s the kind of move they need to make to contend this year. Peterson over Burns could be the difference in a couple games over a given season.

Haden and Peterson and Hilton would be some trio covering opponents top three WR...

Shaz and Dupree 2018 money comes off the books in 2019.... as that salary moves to Peterson.

Artie Burns, 2019 2nd round pick.
2020 5th.

You then trade Bell to the first team to offer a third.

Said team can get the strech run with Bell, possibly still lose him to FA,
But get their 3rd back with the comp pick.

That would be brutal....

But i have no doubt BB is working the phones.

They got their offrnsive pieces back and in place...
Ped Edleman and the addition of Gordon.

Now i can see them adding a defensive piece

That would be an exciting group. I would start to smell SB.

Why not give a 2nd round pick for him? Even a 1st considering they will need to spend a 1st or a 2nd on drafting a DC.

Yinz are underselling the Steelers here. First, they traded for Vance last year (along with that bum SS whose name I forget). Second, they traded for Switz this year. They picked up Joe Haden off the waiver cuts.

At most, you could ensure Bell only gets 8 checks (i.e., put him on the two week exemption). If you move Burns in the deal, I would think that creates enough cap space. I would do Burns and a 3rd +5th for Peterson easily. Doesn't solve LB -- hopefully Burnett gets healthy and shores up ILB on passing downs.

I smell a three-team deal.

Bell to an NFC team who needs a RB.
Pick from Bell's new team to AZ.
Pick from Steelers + Artie Burns to AZ for Peterson.

Cards get two picks + Artie Burns.
Team 3 gets Le'veon Bell.
Steelers get Patrick Peterson.

Make it a true blockbuster by including Haason Reddick in the deal.

Cut Justin Hunter and sign Damoun Patterson off of the TB practice squad.

Championship.

I have a theory -- not sure it is right.

Good defense is almost always a result of getting a critical # of players. That is, an offense can be good if it has good players in a few key spots and average elsewhere. A defense can only be good if it has good players in most spots, and a few average players in non-key spots.

The reason is the offensive team can scheme match-ups; it is much harder for a defense to scheme certain match-ups against weak offensive players.

Hence why adding Peterson is more than just shoring up the CB spot. It means more passers will target Haden (which will increase his odds of getting an interception). It means a QB may have to hold onto the ball for .5 seconds allowing Watt to get home. It is a cumulative impact.
