No matter the situation between these two teams this is straight up disgusting. Fuck whoever did that. They can go to Hell.

Pathetic doesn’t even begin to describe assholes like this.
Once again...taking this shit way too seriously. IT IS just a game!

That is a disgrace to see. Seems in the comments it was stated Brady was shown last week, the person seems to do it every week. It's reprehensible all the way.

I will caution, didn't we also hang Mr Stoudt in effigy from the rafters of TRS?

I seem to vividly remember a photo in SI posted in/around 1983 which showed it as the TV crews wouldn't. That photo is probably tucked away in the SI archive.

Here is a story about the Cliff Stoudt rememberance in Pitt.

http://triblive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sp ... 42991.html

Swiss, do you recall if you were in the Stadium? B2B?

How do we know a Steelers fan did that?

It's disgusting no matter what but I don't see anything that proves it's a Steelers fan or Pittsburgher who did it.

I mean there's probably like a 95% chance that someone in Western PA did it because...racism.

But we should at least be able to prove our accusations

The comments in the story are saying it's been done every week by what seems to be same person.

I do not see anywhere to link to verify location, but your inquiry is valid, we don't know who or what fandom did it.

It's just sickening all around

Seriously?? Burfict's not the only guy to be hung in effigy. It's happened often enough that we have terminology for it (...hung in effigy), that everyone understands. Hell....in my desk drawer somewhere, I have a pic of Drew Bledsoe being hung in effigy in '98. Now, that happened to be the same game that Kordell Stewart had beer thrown on him, but completely unrelated. I think it's going waaaay PC to describe this as racist. It's specific to Burfict, and I would think that everyone knows that.

And Beth...no, I was not in the stadium for Cliff Stoudt's return to face the Pittsburgh Maulers, under center for the Birmingham team.

Yes, was the USFL game.....pelted with snowballs, etc....far more demonstrative than being hung in effigy.

People have gotten way too sensitive. This article is labelling this as a racist act, am I missing something?

“Stay classy Steelers fans”

What? It was one individual, don’t group everyone together.

Fucking hate that team and city, bunch of LOSERS!

To be fair, on this very site, we have people wishing death upon the owner, GM, and Head Coach for cutting a guy.

So I mean they're not wrong...

I believe Bradshaw was also hung in effigy, in the early 70s, at Three Rivers. There is a picture of it on one of the NFL Films presentations (I looked, I couldn't find it on the Interwebs).

What makes it touchy is the history of lynchings in this country and the fact that Burflict is black. But it's possible or even likely that the intent of the hangers was not racial in nature, just an unfortunate side effect of their hatred.

People should probably think through their actions a bit more thoroughly before doing something like that. There probably was a more racially sensitive way of communicating the same hatred.

But sometimes the thought process is interrupted with beer.

Mmmhhhh, beer....

Bengals fans are the least self aware fan base I’ve seen, and that’s not an easy title to get.

Is it similar to the amount of Patriots news we get from Steelers fans?

I think the NE news cycle is in a down year here. Except for last week.

I would think that it's almost certain that this had nothing due to with anything other than hating Vontez Burfict....which is fairly common!

That is a very naive assumption to make.

Damn it's just fandom - not racially motivated at all! It's not like this was the first time it has ever been done. It was just done with Brady last week, so their is plenty of evidence to suggest that Burfict was not racially chosen, but this is one person's way of celebrating his fandom and hatred for other teams players. If you wanna read more into it, help yourself. I personally think that people need to look in the mirror and ask where their man balls went to. Constantly living in the past (like immediately thinking of the perceived threat to hang a black man like the slave days or KKK), doesn't prepare you for the future. Ya truly want to look to the future, build it from your heart, not your brain and the knowledge of the past.

"Having balls" does not excuse anyone from being racially insensitive.

What to you is "no big deal" regarding our racist past is still traumatic to a lot of Americans. The wound is fresh.

The people who did this may not have meant anything racist, but I'd like to think that if called on it they would qualify that this wasn't their intention and apologize for that part of it.

There are plenty of reasons to hate that scumbag besides bringing race into it.

I don't see anything wrong with it.

Just get ole James "Silverback" Harrison to use those big monkey paws of his to climb up that flag pole and pull it down.

:ugeek:
