College administrators are pathetic. Have them sign a fucking waiver. If it's going to be this way, the college can't have a lion as a mascot.

I remember many years ago going cliff diving near Penn State and no one gave a shit. Today they'd clutch pearls and reach for the fainting couch.

BTW, if this is the standard how can they have football, wrestling and women's basketball programs?

Yeah, they just don't want to get sued. If kids wants to organize a group and self-fund, then I doubt there's anything the university can do to stop them from going on hikes. But once the university provides funds, then it accepts a responsbility to oversee the activities are safe.

And I think there is a strong chance there have been instances of students acting like assholes on these trips. I doubt this just came in out of the blue.

Yeah, they were talking about this on the radio a few weeks ago.

Basically, it was becoming increasingly common for these trips to become just outdoor keggers that happened to have some rafting or hiking thrown in.

Basically, if you want nice things, don't be a douche.

Adults need to learn that getting drunk in the woods has consequences.

No more bubble wrap.

The point is, they can buy a keg and get drunk in the woods on their own. It doesn't need to be club endorsed by the University. Some dummies screwed it up for everyone. But i'm sure you know that already.

It's about liability. School sponsored events are subject to liability if anybody drowns in a river. But let's talk about snowflakes instead.
