At Wrigley Field
Game time: 1:10PM ET
Probable starters:
PIT: Jameson Taillon (5-2, 2.73 ERA)
CHC: Jon Lester (5-5, 3.94 ERA)

Quote:
Jameson Taillon's 15 1/3-inning scoreless streak is impressive -- even more so when you consider all he's been through.

Diagnosed with testicular cancer in May, the right-hander missed the rest of the month while he recovered from surgery. He returned to the mound some five weeks later and struck out five over five scoreless innings. He hasn't slowed down since.

As Taillon takes the mound for the finale between the Pirates and Cubs today, he'll be looking to stay on a run that's seen him go 3-1 with a 1.98 ERA over five outings since his return. Opposing him will be left-hander Jon Lester, who will look to send the Cubs into the break on a high note.
Lester struggled in his most recent outing, giving up five runs in five innings in a 6-5 loss to the Rays, but he'd been locked in before that, making four straight quality starts and pitching one of his best games of the year against the Mets.

In that outing he allowed one run over seven innings and struck out 10 in a 14-3 win. That was only the second time this season he posted double-digit strikeouts, though he has struck out seven or more in three of his last five outings.

Three things to know about this game

• In his previous start, which came in a 3-0 win in Philadelphia, Taillon struck out a career-high nine batters while only walking two. However, he may not find the same success against a few Cubs who have given him trouble. Anthony Rizzo (6-for-11), Javier Baez (5-for-7), Willson Contreras (2-for-6) and Kyle Schwarber (2-for-4) are a combined 15-for-28 against him for their careers.

• On the other side, the Pirates' lineup has plenty of experience against Lester, with six players having double-digit at-bats off him. That group includes Josh Harrison (24 at-bats, .250 average), who smoked a leadoff homer against Lester in the last meeting between the two, on April 26.

• Andrew McCutchen enters Sunday with 1,396 career hits, ranked 17th in Pirates history. Shortly after he hits the 1,400 mark, he'll be able to move up in the rankings, as Jason Kendall sits in 16th with 1,409.

Dude...say Milwaukee goes .500 the rest of the way.

The Pirates would have to go 55-22 to overtake them. That ain't happening.

Even if Milwaukee went 30-42 the rest of the way, the Pirates would have to go 49-28.

Division is NOT "within reach" if the Pirates get their shit together, unless Milwaukee tanks, and Chicago and St. Louis fail to do anything other than keep muddling along.

I gave you the scenario where Milwaukee thuds back to earth by going TWELVE GAMES UNDER .500. In such a scenario, the Pirates would have to finish TWENTY-ONE GAMES OVER .500 to surpass them.

2017 is done, barring a miracle. We need to set up for 2018.

Of course, Nutting will do neither.

Well the Bucs definitely brought the bats to Wrigley today. Cutch and Cervelli with homers. 10-0 Bucs in the first and the Cubs haven't even come to bat yet.

I think you need to check your math Jeems.

Your math is way off.

Oops...it all started when I decided 49+36 = 95.

As the mind goes, so goes the internal calculator.
