At Citizens Bank Park
Game time: 7:05PM ET
Probable starters:
PIT: Ivan Nova (8-5, 3.08 ERA)
PHI: Aaron Nola (5-5, 4.13 ERA)

Quote:
Pirates right-hander Ivan Nova has consistently proven this season he can pitch deep into games, so it was surprising when he didn't complete six innings in his last start against the Rays on Wednesday. But Nova has the opportunity to rebound against Aaron Nola and the Phillies at 7:05 p.m. ET on Monday at Citizens Bank Park.

Wednesday marked the first time this season Nova didn't pitch into the sixth, but he still held the Rays to only two runs on seven hits. Nova has notched 11 quality starts and ranks fourth in innings (108) among qualified National League starters. Pirates manager Clint Hurdle even said Nova sets an example for the other starters in the rotation.

"I think it's a great model to watch," Hurdle said of Nova. "I am not sure that was the game plan of Nova's going in, but it's morphed into one for the other pitchers that are watching it. They have talked about it. They have talked to me about watching him attack hitters, watching the benefits of being efficient, watching the benefits of first-pitch strikes, first two out of three pitches being strikes … and the benefits that can come from them."

Nola is coming off back-to-back quality outings, allowing just three earned runs in 14 1/3 innings in that span. He posted a 3.24 ERA in five starts in June.

Things to know about this game

• Andrew McCutchen, Josh Harrison and David Freese are all expected to return to Pittsburgh's lineup after a scheduled off-day. Hurdle said that his veteran players just needed a short break. "In a perfect world, you would like to space everything out," Hurdle said. "Guys are tired when they are tired and they need to get out when they need to get out."

• The Phillies' Howie Kendrick is scheduled to have an MRI exam on his strained left hamstring on Monday. He had not played in the field since June 21 before finally landing on the 10-day disabled list on Friday.

• The Pirates have struggled scoring the go-ahead run late in games. With the go-ahead run at the plate in the ninth inning or extras, the Bucs are hitting .200 with an expected batting average of .168, according to Statcast. They have also struggled making solid contact in these situations, with 33 balls in play having an average exit velocity of 82 mph.

Losing 4 straight to 2 of the worst teams in the league = awesome :(

Looks like we're ready to start another 20-year tear of crappiness -- Gadzooks!

Nutting says keep them turnstiles humming. Fireworks, bobble heads, washed up musician concerts, free t shirt Friday, Sunday kids giveaway. Ohhh...and let's not forget Pirates Charities night. Spend your hard earned cash on a bag of worthless crap. Just wait and see how much that Jordy Mercer autographed jersey will be worth in 20 years!!!

The fuck of this season is that the division is there for the taking. If this were the team of two years ago, they'd be flying high in first place. But instead, we've got this hot mess.

Happy to say I didn't even turn the game on.

Screw these losers, especially ownership who's never been serious about winning. Stupid fans will say "Marte and Kang are out, that's why we suck". The team would be better obviously, but not a true contender. The ceiling always seems to be a wild card loss, and this year they won't make it close to the playoffs.
