I don't believe this.

I believe the Penguins have been playing this way the entire playoffs, except they have managed to get some quick strike offense in almost every game they've won to be able to play with a lead.

But they've been dominated in play almost every game...Columbus included.

It wasn't a sudden turn for the worst...it was a slow decline in already weak play that is now exacerbated with so many people hurt.

I'm not counting them out in Game 7, but I'm certainly not going in with any expectations that they will win it.

But there's some truth to what he's saying. Crosby being limited (he doesn't look right to me), kills our ability to counterattack successfully. The Pens have basically lived on the PP and the counter this playoffs (much much different than last year where we suffocated teams on every inch of the ice).

I don't think the Pens would have won last game, but if they score at least ONCE on the PP maybe the Caps start to pucker and the game goes slightly different...maybe OT

Basically it again comes down to special teams and goaltending- cliche but true...

It's possible.

We were winning games with quick-strike offense and better STs, so it is possible Crosby is still hurt and that's killing us.

This malaise of sorts that the Pens have gone through this playoffs can be extended back into the end of this regular season. Unlike last year where they took off the last 6 weeks of the season and dominated this years Pens started to regress the last month or so.
They were routinely out shot in games and average teams like New Jersey gave them tough games, games they would have won going away(last year).
Injuries were the big problem this year-last year they were missing Malkin at the end but the momentum they were building carried them past that and on to the cup.
This year they lost Malkin again along with Letang and another 4-6 key players and they have never recovered nor found that ability to overwhelm teams.

This years team entered the playoffs unlike they did last year.

Saw a guy who looks just like Phil Borque in the lobby of my building today.

He was talking to another guy about the game. He preducted that the Pens win 4-3 with a late goal from Sid being the game winner.

Who am I to argue with that?

Forget which one of you puckheads (might've been you, Fracta, or maybe Donnie) was sounding the alarm as the regular season was in its final weeks about the number of shots the Pens were surrendering.

Yes. But the pens have been more efficient this year. Probably as a result of defensemen getting hurt, but at some point the two best players on the team need to step up. They are not. Last year they could rely on others to take the lead or make them pay for opponents focusing on Malkin or Crosby, but not this year. They can't get the puck through the neutral zone, and are being shoved off pucks with lackadaisical forechecking. The caps are simply the better, more physical team, and have the desire. It's like the pens are waiting for someone or something to snap.

That was me. And for all the knucklehead plays Letang makes the dude actually is a possession monster and we were able to keep the puck away from the other team. Not having him for more than half the season took its toll. Now we're forced to block a ton of shots and the goalie has to save the shit ton that make it thru.

It was a bad recipe from the beginning and the chickens are coming home to roost.
