Oh no- Starling Marte just took a 94 mph fastball to the head.

Right on the ear flap.

He's staying in but damn...

It looks like there's about 100 people in the stands.

Yikes!

In Miami, the Marlins have been outdrawn by their AA affiliate.

Vazquez strikes out Cabrera to end the game.

10-6...don't get sucked in.

Nice to see Marte stayed in after he got thwacked.

Team can't afford to lose him what with their inability to score runs at present.

He's one of the few hitters they have with the potential to break out

His reversion to mean would be positive.

You mean back to before he was caught cheating?
OK average, little power, poor plate discipline...a step or two above JAG.
Don’t fall for the Pirates organization PR hype machine that markets guys like Marte, Polanco, Cervelli as stars to push ticket sales...
They are what they are.

I’ll grant you that Marte is not a superstar. But he is hardly just a JAG. Last year he had the 8th highest OPS of all Center fielders. He was 6th in WAR. Guys like him don’t grow on trees.

I have no illusions that Marte is a super player but neither is he a .180 hitter.

You guys are putting words on my fingertips. Never said he was JAG...never said he was a .180 hitter. He’s an OK player, nothing more.
He’s not someone that can carry a franchise...which is what the FO wants to promote, along with Cervelli.
Losing Marte is not the end of the world. Hell, he missed what was it 50...80 games with that injury last year. Oh wait...that wasn’t an injury....

On this team, at this point in time, he would be a loss.

With Polanco and Dickerson out, and the team doing their usual April tease...sure. Otherwise we’ll just agree to disagree.

That was two seasons ago. Last year he played 145 games.

2017. Marte played 77 games. Pirates were a 75 win team
2018. Marte played 145 games. Pirates were an 82 win team.

Not saying all the improvement goes to him, but it sure seems to me he makes a pretty large impact.

Wow, that was 2 years ago? Time flies
You guys are buying...I get it. I used to also, but not anymore.
The guys nothing special...like I told Jeemie, agree to disagree.
