Good hustle by Sprong led to Simone getting the first one.
1-0

Didn’t look good for Schultz.

That may be a broken leg.

That was a nice fill by Letang and he didn't hesitate with his shot.

I'm not sure I like Brassard on the top line.

The Pens got sloppy in their own end those last few minutes.

Without Schultz, the bad thing is we're going to see a lot more Oleksiak and Maataa. We're already forced to see Jack Johnson. It's a tire fire.

Fortunately, I think this is Dumo's best game of the year. Letang is playing like he was a few years ago with some really strong hockey. So that's 3/6 as far as Dmen playing well. Schultz wasnt playing great, but I thought it wouldn't take much to change that.

Riikola is turning the puck over, but he's doing a good job of covering things up once he does. None of the turnovers are particularly devastating. A lot of them are plays maybe he underestimated and maybe didnt think an NHL guy could make.

I really like Brassard with Crosby. They're getting some decent chances but nothing clicking too much. Crosby looks like he's going at it 75% then getting frustrated because he's half-assing it.

I really wish Malkin would shoot it more.

Should mention the great play by Sprong/Cullen/Simon. Good goal by the young guys. Have to see them more. Sprong has stood out more the past two games. Simon seems just as up and down as last season. At least he has ups.

The Pens new third line grinds it.

A lot of that was a sequence with Johnson and Olli. Surprise.

Maata was brutal in the first. When he wasn't turning it over he was late in recognizing the play around him. I know the speed isn't there but his decision making is shit as well. Bring back the Big guy for him.
I know it is early but Johnson has shown nothing but being average at best.

Letang with excellent plays in both ends right now.

Oh, nearly halfway through the game and the Pens have what, 9-10 shots on goal?

Credit to Rust on the 5 on 3 PK.

12 SOG after 40 minutes is embarrassing for this group.

Not good at all, especially with Niemi in net.

Getting your foot kicked out from under you doesn’t help with the save.

He knocked DeSmith off balance who was falling as the shot was coming.

Well, we just lost to Niemi in a shootout.

Maybe Crosby and Malkin will be reminded soon that the season has started.

A lot more than sort of. I didn't think it was much when they first showed it. But when they showed it again from the behind the net camera, it was pretty blatant. Doesn't take much to knock a goalie off balance, and that was more than enough.

And playing a 2nd period like that doomed them. I don’t care what you pick heads say, MTL is not that good, especially with Niemi in net.

That he did. I suspect Montreal had some data telling them to go high blocker side on shootout because their two goals were almost identical.
