We have the young arms in place to make a run at things again in 19.

Lol. To be this senile. Ironzabo is the original steel but rarely posts here, so this is a rare treat.

Being .500 just about matters as much as tits on a bull. Who gives a shit.

Making a run "at things," eh? What is the "at things" here? Fourth place in the division and 8 games out of a wild card spot?

Maybe they'll make another run at book-ending their season with wins against bottom feeders to artificially inflate their record again?

Chris Archer will make about 30 runs at trying to get to the 6th inning.

How about they make a run at a cleanup hitter, something they've lacked since... hmmm...2001 Aramis Ramirez? Oh, and then not too much later Chicago "made a run" at him.

Something tells me they'll make a run at getting rid of Josh Harrison's contract.
Something tells me they'll make a run at some over-the-hill, random middle infielder making $2 million to replace Harrison. So, let's just say Jose Reyes. They'll grab him and overpay some random reliever to "solidfy" things. Sounds like a great offseason.

Well, in the wake of a (not) surprising Little League-style loss as the Buccos wrapped up the home season yesterday, at least this one ray of sunshine, from the Trib:
Quote:
The Pirates ended the season with a total attendance of 1,465,316 in 78 dates, the smallest overall turnout since PNC Park opened in 2001 and the lowest for the franchise since 1996.

Pirate fans finally voting "no" with their wallets on Nutting's endless shite-show of money-grubbing mediocrity??

The Pirates/Marlins make-up game scheduled for Monday has been canceled, as it is meaningless.

Therefore the Buccos will only play 161 games this year and thus only have to win two of their last six games to finish above .500 and end their streak of losing seasons..somewhat earlier than the last streak of 20 seasons...at two.

8-)

And is the lowest since 1996. Good. Fuck Nutting. Hope it's lower next year if he continues his cheap ways (and he will).

u know im very shocked they finished 500 or better. noway did I expect this when they swooned and dropped below. I expected them to battle reds for 4th. at least 10 under or more. I will give them some credit for battling to end . schooling cubs now. go figure. the players I can give praise but the owner sucks ass and his defenders are now non existent or ashamed. hard tp get excited when u know its impossible to really win with a cheap ass owner and suck ass minions toeing the company line. there some bright spots. but you can't count on much help coming if any at all, prob more dumpage in store and financial flexibility. real shame is. recent great records got us play in game. same now and they top seed. and now Bucs have a real stopper for a play in game . Williams!! and tallion been mighty strong too. oh well..

Since they are going to finish right around .500, I wonder if they will end up as “the most average baseball club ever” by fivethirtyeight’s standards!

I think the Pirates have had a good season considering expectations.

They have a good pitching staff to build on - I didn’t expect that staff to develop so quickly. I certainly didn’t expect them to get Archer. Will they go get a BAT - doubt it but who knows. Maybe the Archer deal will get them going in the right direction. To be above .500 and only 7.5 out of a playoff spot - not bad for this team.

I agree. team coulda went thru motions and dogged it after going under 500.. its just sad the owner sucks so bad taking hope away. perhaps the attendance drop will open his wallet but I doubt it.

I'm not gonna lie. I have been paying attention to the Bucs to see if they would finish above .500. Gotta give them credit for yesterday's win in Cincinnati in extra innings no less. I hope you're right, Suwanee.

Buccos fans “one shining moment” of the past two and a half decades.
And Browns fans try to tell me I don’t know what it feels like....

Old friend Brock Holt became the first player in MLB postseason history to hit for the cycle last night.
