Let's be honest, we were all calling the backside of Cutch's greatness last year at this time.

He has slipped into mediocrity and his departure was a plus given the financial issues.

You can argue about letting Cole or Happ get away so easily but letting Cutch go was the right thing.

It was nice while it lasted.

That one I do not fault Nuttig for.

Kuhl needs to be in the bullpen -- not a starter

our bullpen is so fucking awful

5-3 lead after 6, and we give up a run in the 7th and another run in the 8th -- Giants still batting against fuckhead KONTOS in the 8th -- when will hurdle fucking bench this buy? Jesus Christ is he awful... BP will lose another game we should have won...

Josh Bell is fucking awesome -- great hitter, great fielder. He's a huge reason why we are doing well this year.

I think you are premature in burying Andrew McCuthen. He has a history of being a slow starter. His career April batting average is just .244. But he had already drawn 24 walks in just 38 games. On pace for 100+. His bat will heat up and he will put up an Andrew McCutchen type season. He had one down year. That was 2016. Last year he rebounded. Dickerson was a nice get to replace some of Cutch’s lost production. But by end of season I expect if we compare the two Cutch will have the better numbers. Keep in mind Dickerson had a tremendous first half last year with the Rays and then fell off a cliff in the second half.

With a weak lineup.

I am damn near done with Polanco. I would start Osuna in RF, bat him 3rd and leave him there for a while.

That weak lineup isn't so weak. They are second in NL in runs scored. As for Polanco his batting average leaves something to be desired, but he also leads the team in home runs, extra base hits, and walks.

I see military worship and wrapping sport in the flag has infected MLB as well. It's not even veterans day or memorial day.

I know NFL ownership is dominated by conservatives, but baseball? I had no idea.

But we live in an alternative universe. The Pirates are in first fucking place?

Every Thursday...

"Each Thursday representatives from a designated military organization are honored in a pregame on-field ceremony and hosted in the Pirates Charities Suite. In addition, on these dates all proceeds from the Pirates Charities 50/50 Raffle supports that specific military organization."

Do you have a problem with the military and our flag?

Nope. Not at all. I don't like it shoved down my throat at every turn, though. I have nothing against patriotism and a healthy respect for the country you live in/ the military that protects it. However, life is more than country and its defense. The more you worship the military and the flag, the more militaristic and jingoistic you become. History has shown as much. This was the basis of nazi Germany and currently, pootin's russia. Besides, this adoration of the armed services has more to do with politics and money than patriotism.

But enough of that. The pirates are in first? How long does anybody think that's gonna last?

They’re not in first right now.

A well-reasoned response, COR-TEN. I would add the Soviet Union to your list of bad guys with nationalistic displays. While I know we're polar opposite in the political arena, I must say I agree with you with the over the top displays at sporting events today. For instance, at a recent minor league hockey game I attended, I stood up for not only the National Anthem, but also God Bless America and America the Beautiful before the start of the game. Albeit a different child's choir sang each one so I guess it was an opportunity for them but what was wrong with the good ol' days where the organist would play the anthem and that was it? I, too, am uncomfortable with over the top displays.

As for the Bucs, I am surprised and happy for their decent start, but I have absolutely no confidence they'll be in the running for the division or even a wild card.

That's what we said when they went into their last tailspin.

We'll see if the Reds are the cure for their latest slump.

And now the Reds are spanking them 6-1. If I were Taillon, I'd ask for a trade to Houston. It's where Pirate pitchers go to succeed.
