If the choice is between a guy like Bowser or Mahomes, I think the value is with Mahomes, for the future of the team. The cream of the crop edge guys will be reasonably picked over by 1.30, as demonstrated in both board mocks. CB, the second round-early 4th is pretty well stocked with talent, even deeper if you're able to overlook some warts.

This could be the year to take the chance on the QB.

I dislike this years qb class. I would trade up in next years draft including picks from 2019 draft.

With that one exception, I totally agree on this year's QB class, cop.

I think in years past we have waited for local sources before 'confirming' a pre-draft visit. I'll add McKinley, and here's one more:

Quote:
#NCState S Josh Jones, who worked out for the #Titans today, is visiting the #Vikings tomorrow, source said. #Browns, #Steelers, #Bears loom

If the juniors/RS Soph come out next year it could be an impressive class.

I like their thinking on both. Mahommes and Dobbs will both need time to develop but if it were me, those would be two of the QBs that I take a chance on.

I agree - I think they are taking Mahomes at 30. He is their kind of QB, and they like the idea of him sitting the remainder of Ben's deal.

If they do this, I wish they would also trade up and nab an OLB or CB too.

Draft Mahomes and offer next year's 1st for an early 2nd rounder for Bowser or Willis. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that strategy.

Rivers might be considered a local visit. very close to the 50 mile radius.

I think it would be just outside-- between 55 and 65, depending on where they measure to-from.

You and I would do this, I would be blown away if Colbert pulled the trigger on something like this.

Article is a few years old, but here's a primer on what constitutes a 'local' visit.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/04/05/breaking-down-the-rules-regarding-pre-draft-rookie-visits/
Quote:
Players who attend college or reside in a club’s “metropolitan area” can be given a physical examination without counting against the 30-player limit, unless the club provides transportation for the visit. Also, a player who attends college or whose hometown is in a club’s “metropolitan area” may be timed and tested at the club’s facility, as long as the club does not provide transportation.

“Metropolitan area” is defined as contiguous suburbs. There isn’t a 25-mile, 50-mile, or any other type of mileage radius rule. The league office uses the 2011 Rand-McNally Road Atlas to determine the metropolitan area of a city.

I don't think that Youngstown qualifies.

On a positive note, Kaboly just confirmed that Nicholson is a local visit (he's from Monroeville).

Samson Ebukam is on his 3rd of 12 visits. So much interest teams are flying him from team city to team city. Today is Pitt, tomorrow is GB https://twitter.com/nfldraftscout/statu ... 1965089792

Intriguing prospect for sure. Ran a 4.5 40/1.53 split, vertical of 39", broad of 10'10", SS 4.34, 7.07 3 cone and benched 225 24x. Athleticism/play strength is there. Bit raw but very moldable.

Tim Williams definitely had a private workout with Steelers.

Ebukam spent a lot of time in coverage, more of a well-rounded OLB. He can play though and tested well.

Any place where I can watch Samson Ebukan? Now that he's been such a popular topic around here I need to do my homework.

Villanova DL Tanoh Kpassagnon is visiting the Steelers on Tuesday.
Kpassagnon is an impressive looking prospect, and when it is all put together his tape is outstanding. However, that does not happen often enough. Kpassagnon might fit as an interior defensive lineman or on the edge, depending on the scheme.

The Steelers are hosting Alabama edge rusher Tim Williams on Tuesday, according to Bob Labriola.
Williams likely lands in the second round, but the Steelers in the back half of round one is not unreasonable. Williams can certainly rush the passer, and the Steelers are absolutely in need of a young player to do that on their roster. Williams is also an underrated run defender.
