I try to be an optimist when talking Steelers football but losses to the Bucs, Jets, Saints etc has me doubting this team. I see the Steelers selecting in the mid teens and getting a couple comp picks.

1.) Ronnie Stanley OT Notre Dame- Like fellow stud Jack Conklin, Stanley is just a redshirt sophomore and would have to declare before he can be charged with protecting Ben’s blindside.

2.) Jalen Collins CB LSU- 6’2 200 My guy- played his ass off against Bama. The secondary needs rebuilt. I hope the Steelers address the secondary in both the draft and free agency.

3.) Trey Flowers DE Arkansas-Wreaked havoc against Missouri in only game I saw him play. Would be a major projection to OLB standing at 6’4 265 but this kid is a War Daddy, something the Steelers’ defense desperately needs.

3C.) Vince Mayle WR Washington St- The Steelers under Tomlin like to select receivers around this area of the draft. Having a basketball background and not playing full time football until 2012, this 6’3 220 beast and his 101 catches for over 1,400 yds has me thinking matchup nightmare along with Bryant and Brown. Note: My guy Devin Smith is tearing up the Badgers but I already mocked him few weeks back so trying to get some different names out there for discussion.

4.) Durell Eskridge S Syracuse- I know, I know, the Steelers struck out with ‘Cuse safeties Anthony Smith and Shamarko Thomas, but maybe the third time is a charm with this 6’3 203 pd ballhawk who had a 29 yd int return for a touchdown vs Notre Dame.

5.) Chucky Hunter NT TCU- Read that he made some guy named Bruce Feldman’s "All Freak" team after reportedly benching 520 pds and posting a 460 pd power clean. At 6’1 300 he’s not as big as another workout warrior Dontari Poe, but perhaps his squatty, powerful build will remind Steelers’ scouts of a young Casey Hampton.

6.) Nick Marshall DB Auburn- This former Georgia Bulldog was recruited to play defensive back. Marshall has stated he’s open to playing other positions other than quarterback. All I know is this kid is a helluva football player and I would find a position for him on my team.

6C) Marcus Murphy RB Missouri- Here’s some juice for the return game. Kid had a 96 yard kickoff return and 86 yard punt return both for tds vs Florida. Murphy has 7 returns for tds, has also caught, ran, and thrown for touchdowns making him a nice multipurpose back for the Steelers.

7.) Davis Tull OLB Chattanooga- Late rd sleepers are popular here at Steelerfury. How about this 6’3 240 pd hustler who is a 2 time conference player of the year and his schools all-time sack leader. You draft diehards can check him out in the East-West Shrine game.

I like it. I assume you think Worlids is resigned?

I might look at free safety or corner in the 3rd, I don't think they go WR that high with so many holes on the D. Depending on what they do with Troy, I'd cut him and move Mitchell to SS then grab a FS in the 3rd with your mock. Doubt they make the smart football decision and they will let Troy stay as long as he wants. If they resign Worlids, in the 3rd how about a DE, and another corner?

Like it drama outstanding job. I had Stanley in RND 3 just last month, how times have changed. ;)

Love Collins in 2. Have to be honest I know nothing of the rest of your selections. Going by measurables they look to fit the Steeler mold for players they would select. Thanks Drama and keep 'em comin'.

All I'm really going to say right now is I'm a fan of any mock with Jalen Collins in it.

as for redshirt soph LT? Around week 10 he'd be starting RT for a year and a half before moving to blindside. That means 3 more years of Kelvin Beachum and an extension for him

You know what?

I can't believe I'm writing this but I would lock Beachum down. He is a young, he has played above average this year, all reports are he works his ass off.

I like Stanley, I think he will declare and go early. He is very athletic, and I think the comparisons will be to T Smith. The ND Stanford and FSU are up at youtube. He easily handles Mario Edwards in pass pro- but Edwards is a lazy bastard. I only watched a half of the Stanford game, but he gives up a sack, a couple pressures, and looks more of a positional run blocker. But his size and feet are early first round stuff imo.

I like Conklin more. Really impressive tape vs Gregory and Bosa.

My initial plan would be more look for a RT around 3. Maybe move Gilbert to LG a couple years down the road.

But I really like the draft. I don't think I could pass on Stanley, Conklin, Collins, or Scherff in this draft...given they all come out.

Always look forward to your mocks drama.

Love the emphasis on D with the mock and notably the three picks targeting the secondary.

With Hunter backing up McClendon do you eventually see McCullers being kicked outside as a backup DE

Well the good Steelers showed up yesterday so it looks like the Steelers will be playoff bound... for this week anyway.

Anyway. It seems to me that Tomlin likes using his 1st rd picks on the offensive line and front 7 players with Mendenhall being the exception. Tomlins two 1st round linemen Pouncey and Decastro have played very well. It's the 2nd rd OTs Adams and Gilbert that have struggled. A topic that hasn't been discussed is the health of the OL this year very few injuries compared to the pre-Munchak arrival. Point being whether you're sold on Beachum or not you can't have enough talent on the OL.

Watching Troy yell to Mitchell for help in mid stride while being roasted by AJ Green has me wanting a stud safety drafted in a bad way.

I hope another team outbids the Steelers for Worilds. If that happens a pass rusher becomes a top draft priority because we all know the Steelers won't be the highest bidder for Justin Houston's services.

A couple big physical corners to eventually replace Ike and Cortez are needed as well.

Aussie I enjoy reading yours and many other opinions here in the draft forum. I'd like to see McClendon moved to end as a wave player behind Heyward and Tuitt. He's an all out hustler and chases plays down field. I just don't think he's a very good NT... but then again I am spoiled after watching the best Nt ever in Casey Hampton.

Thanks as always for the great draft conversation.

Ronnie Stanley - T - Fighting Irish
Notre Dame redshirt sophomore T Ronnie Stanley requested an evaluation from the NFL Draft Advisory Board.
Prior to the season, when we optimistically called Stanley a top-50 prospect, nobody would have thought that the third-year soph would consider bolting for the NFL this winter. Now, with some calling Stanley a potential top-10 pick, it might be surprising if he announces he'll return to South Bend. The Advisory Board will tell Stanley he's a second-rounder, at worst, and more likely they'll give him the good news of a first-round projection.

Jack Conklin - T - Spartans
Michigan State redshirt sophomore OT Jack Conklin is "weighing his options," with regards to the draft, reports TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline.
"As I hear it Conklin would also prefer to stay in college and its outside influences (aka agents) who are pushing him towards opting for the draft," Pauline wrote. "Most scouts feel Conklin, who lines up at left tackle for the Spartans but is better suited for the right side at the next level, could move from third round prospect in 2015 to the first round in 2016 if he sticks around MSU for another season." Conklin is a massive 6-foot-5, 326-pound specimen. The former walk-on redshirted his first season and has been starting ever since.

Sadly, Drama, I think they'll both be gone by the Steelers pick, even if we were to lose out and miss the dance. Price of 8-8. Give me defense all the way at this point. I'll agree that Devin Smith will be a good pro. He makes some spectacular catches.

I think there are about 25 top ten picks according to the draft experts. I personally do not think Stanley is one of them. Not saying that he is not decent I just do not think he is top 10.
