I really do like Joshua Frazier as that last 7th rounder/UDFA. Not that I think he is a great prospect but I think Dunbar would love to have this former pupil to come in and be able to use him to help show techniques. It is one thing to show videos of what you want your players to do, quite another to have a player that you can use to illustrate what you want done in camp. Even if he does not make the team, spending a 7th on Frazier would be worth it from that standpoint. Really excited to see what Dunbar can do with our defensive line, the previous coaching has been underwhelming the past few years.

I don’t mind Frazier but I think he’s a UDFA.

Hey B2B I wanted to ask you about Washington. What you don't like about him?

I have seen some criticize him for not jumping up for footballs. I don't know if that is valid or not. I have seen him fight for footballs, have seen him leap up and his vertical is just average, 34.5 inches but I don't find that a negative.

To me I often see WRs too enamored with leaving their feet. I think back to Jerry Rice and what made him so great is that he ran to and through the catch. And I think at the very heart of the matter that is what makes a great deep threat too. Being able to run to, under and then through the catch. Making it easy for your QB to throw deep to you. If you are leaving your feet to fight for the football, then in all likelihood you haven't really beat the CB have you? And your chances of cleanly catching the ball, finding your feet upon landing and then breaking the tackle are probably greatly reduced.

When I see Washington I see CBs get lulled to sleep with his slow start but then he has that build up speed and blows right by them. Now some argue hey he will get stymied when he has to face man to man coverage and is jammed at the line. Well, we will see, he is just solid, well developed not just up top but in his lower half. I have seen him be more physical, use a stiff arm, he really is built like a RB and moves and plays physically like that. I think just like JuJu he is greater than the sum of his parts. I really like that the Steelers are looking at different type of WRs. It used to be we went with the Brown/Sanders types and then the freak athletes like Bryant/Coates but there is this large middle area where players like JuJu (and maybe Washington) reside and can be mined in the draft.

It's not the vertical jump it's how they use it.

Washington had a VJ of 39" at his pro day, but plays stuck to the ground, a la Mike Wallace and Jeff Janis, both of whom had big VJs. His hands are seriously questionable, and it's my contention that tighter and more physical coverage in the NFL is going to bring out the worst in him. I believe he will struggle to get open on his own, which was how he was winning in college. Capable of strong plays but I don't expect that to be consistent in the NFL. Not sure he's a clutch/pressure player.

Quote:
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline hears that Oklahoma State WR James Washington struggled during Thursday's pro day.

"[Washington] dropped a number of passes including a few which bounced off his hands on go routes," Pauline writes. The analyst also hears that the 5-foot-11, 213-pounder was unable to match his combine 40-yard dash time of 4.54 seconds. That he was running it again to begin with is at least somewhat telling -- many top prospects opt to simply sit on their combine testing numbers on pro day. Washington posted a composite athletic score in the 37th percentile of NFL wideouts when all was said and done in Indianapolis.

Met afterward with Giants, Jags, Eagles, Packers, Steelers, raiders, Bears. Under radar but should end up on a90-man roster https://twitter.com/Eric_Edholm/status/ ... -corner%2F

The unheralded Johnson (5'11/187) really opened some eyes after his strong pro day. He posted a 4.33 40, a 4.20 short shuttle, a 36-inch vertical and a 10-foot-8 broad jump. Per Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst, Johnson looked "smooth and fluid" in position drills. Johnson will be a priority UDFA if he can't convince a team to make a late Day 3 call.

I'm softening a little on Washington. True that his athletic workouts and pro day were poor, but the talk about him being a RB playing WR reminded me that Washington could be seen as a sort of Hines Ward type player. In that light, and watching his best plays, you can actually see how some might see a comparison. If his off the field character/desire to be great is as good as Ward's, he'd be a fine pick. Maybe someone will discover he doesn't have an ACL.

Linebacker Jermaine Carter, who was graded as a potential late round pick entering the season, ran much faster than anticipated. Carter measured 6-foot-1-inch, 222 pounds and timed as fast as 4.69s in the forty, a full tenth faster than expected. He also touched 34.5 inches in the vertical jump.

Carter has four official pre-draft visits scheduled with the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs. He was also interviewed by linebacker coaches from the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants. http://draftanalyst.com/pro-day-maryland

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline with the assist on this one. In addition to the scheduled visits with the quartet of teams listed above, Carter has also gone through interviews with the linebacking coaches for the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants. Pro day proved productive for the 6-foot-1, 222-pounder, who shredded expectations with a run in the vicinity of 4.69 seconds. Per Pauline, Carter was expected to run closer to 4.80 seconds. This time should help buoy his chances for a Day 3 selection.

Lamar Jackson could be in for a plunge. Wonderlik score of 13

Quote:
Literally one GM said he was a project on the white board so I don't know where you're getting these reports about him bombing interviews.

I'd take the agent stuff with a grain of salt since agents are probably the ones pushing that rumor.

Quote:
3/3 Finally, Lamar Jackson doesn't have an agent, and it showed at the Combine. He didn't do well in interviews and white-board work

Matt Miller also said the same thing on his podcast.

Also the agent stuff isn't being pushed by agents, this is being leaked by teams. Teams are interested and trying to set up meetings and workouts, but Lamar's camp has been slow to respond. Seriously, not everything is some nefarious scheme by outsiders to try to sabotage a players draft stock. Sometimes prospects really are just messing up.

This is a little odd.

Results from the Wonderlic test are not made public by NFL teams, yet they always have a way of leaking.
On a recent podcast, former NFL scout John Middlekauff revealed what he claims to be the Wonderlic scores belonging to each of the top five quarterbacks in this year's draft.

Josh Allen, 37
Josh Rosen, 29
Sam Darnold, 28
Baker Mayfield, 25
Lamar Jackson, 13

Interesting if accurate, didn't have Rudolph's. After these 5 and Rudolph there is a major drop in talent level.

You mean like Ben holding a grudge against the Ohio teams who passed on him?

If they go QB in the first and pass on Rudolph for Jackson that will be a Tomlin pick and a huge mistake, and I for one will be pizzed.

It's not like Colbert has picked QB winners, other than Ben. Would you like a list?

5.163 Tee Martin, 5.163 Brian St. Pierre, 1.11 Ben Roethlisberger, 5.164 Omar Jacobs, 5.156 Dennis Dixon, 4.115 Landry Jones, 4.135 Joshua Dobbs

Big difference between spending a 1st on a QB than a 4th or 5th rounder. You better get the 1st rounder right, like KC did with Ben.

I want no part of Jackson in round one -or two for that matter, unless he wants to play the athlete position he's best suited for, then I might consider him in round two or three.
