His crew will probably try to steal the game for the Pats.

Of course, we're fucked. Couldn't have a more corrupt crew officiating our game. The numbers don't lie. Last time he and his crew officiated a Steelers-Pats game, Steelers had double digit penalties for triple digit yards.

They will be the equalizer in this game. Nothing more than a mechanism to slow down our potent offense.

Considering they've called a total of 203 penalties, doesn't it mean they've called 102 against away teams this season? So, basically each team is averaging about 7.25 penalties called against them. If that reigns true this game, lets hope our penalty yardage is much lower than theirs and our penalties aren't of the game changing type. I'll take 7.25, five yard penalties (on first down) please! ;)

Ugggh!

Wonder how many his crew has called on the visiting teams?

If it becomes a TOP game by the Pats, those illegal ticky-tac contact calls, away from the play side are a killer.

As is, DPI or OPI, which if you've been watching the NFL, happens on the regular, throughout the league.

Have a feeling this game gets taken over by dubious petty calls.

They stole the game from the Jets on the recalled touchdown and gave it to the Pats.

One of the commentators, I forgot who it was, said a couple of games ago that people don't watch for the officiating. The NFL has yet to grasp this truth.

It was the MNF football guys (Gruden and whoever the play by play man is now). They were 100% correct.

I call him Sean "Scrote" McDonough. I call him Scrote because his head looks like a big ballbag.

...then his last name should be "McDon'tKnow", if we're calling them like we see them...

Seriously, what are they thinking?

Regardless of how it actually turns out, this is the biggest regular season game in several years (as evidenced by the fact that ESPN is taking their pregame show to the game sight for only the 2nd time ever). So with everyone watching they decide to assign a crew that continually slows down the game and interrupts the flow. Even if the calls are close to equal, why would you want the optics of this high profile game to look that way?

Just makes no sense for the league............... :?

Why is everyone assuming the Steelers will the net loser in this? My guess is that a crew like this, big game, rabid stadium, would be more inclined to favor the home team. Most likely OPI target will be Gronk.

They've called even more against away teams! 7-8 per team every game. It's N-V-T-S.

Yes it does. They want to castrate an aggressive defense. This protects Brady.

I wonder if Kraft had any influence over who would officiate this game. The steelers like to play physical football, the pats are finesse team. I never considered the pats hard nosed football like the AFC north.

I'm guessing they want no part of another shazier injury or a JuJu hit.

Still looking for an answer as to WHY this necessarily will benefit Patriots.

I don't know which, if either team it will benefit. What I do know is that a lot of flags will slow down the game and make it more unpleasant for fans to watch. With that it mind you have to wonder why the league would assign this crew to what could be the biggest game of the regular season.

This I agree with Bar. As for why....not sure if the league tries to send more competent crews to officiate big regular season games, but league must think he's competent. He's officiated a Super Bowl and several championship games.
