I agree.....UNLESS the Steelers win it all this year.

Then I'll bet Ben will want to go out on top....and he will.

Guarantee you the wife is in his ear to quit so he can spend quality time going forward with his little kids.

If we win it and Ben ends up being MVP? HE'S DONE.

See I think if he wins it all, that's what brings him back for another SB run. Hes goal has always been to surpass Bradshaws 4 SBs. If on the other hand, say we have another afccg thrashing at the hands of the pats and its due in large part to another we do what we do tomlin/haley gameplan, then ya, he walks.

Cousins would be the best get tho. Not sure id see it happening but id welcome it, he aint Ben but hes pretty damn good.

Regardless of what happens this year, financially Ben is almost guaranteed to be back next year.

Otherwise, in addition to giving up $12M in salary...he could potentially have to give back $18M in unearned SB. He's got the money, but not nearly enough for writing an $18M check not to hurt REAL bad.

Ben was a fan of Elway growing up. He saw Elway finish with two super bowl wins. I don't know that Ben wouldn't want to do the same if he won the SB this year.

Also, Ben has always stated that he doesn't care about stats, records, but come on!!!

It has to be in the back of his mind that there are some that might feel he is not HOF worthy because of the off the field issues of his youth, whether they happened or not. And there are some that have always tried to say that he can't compare statistically to the top QBs.

And yet he just passed Warren Moon for 8th place all time in passing yards, he now has 49,411 yards. He will easily become just the 8th NFL QB to pass for 50,000 yards within the next 2-3 games.

But if he retires after the season he will have fallen short of one of his heroes John Elway who sits at 51,475.

If Ben can finish out his contract he will push his career stats into the stratosphere where voters can't even attempt to use that as an argument for not voting for him. He would most likely end up in the top 5 for most of the major categories.

So, yeah, I would love to see Ben play out his contract, but still think it would be prudent to take a QB where they can, be it through the draft or free agency.

Mayfield will be a top 5 pick. I still like Nick Fitzgerald from Miss St. in either the 1st or 2nd.

Fitzgerald with a serious and ugly leg injury vs Ole Miss.

ive listened to more Ben interviews than I can remember, here are his stated on the record goals.

1. He is on the record as saying he wants more SBs than TB. Gonna be tough to complete
this one but if he wins a SB this season, I say its a virtual certainty that he comes back for 1 more
run to at least equal TBs 4.

2. He wanted his high school jersey retired and it was.
He wanted his college jersey retired and it was.
He wants his Steelers jersey retired and id say that's a lock.

Ben has also stated multiple times his desire to be the best QBs from the 2004 class. I can’t see him quitting while those two are still out there compiling stats. V

I believe Ben will finish out his contract. He has about 25 million reasons to do so. After 2018 though it’s anyones guess.

granted, I don't think they'll be handing out #12 or #7 jerseys to any rookie qbs any time soon or after Ben retires.

Mayfield won't have half the potential Landry Jones did as a rookie. At this point, Landry is something akin to what Alex Smith was six or seven year ago. I'd rather have Jones next year than either.

Lol, Baker Mayfield is twice the QB Landry Jones ever was, I watched most of games at OU and Landry couldn’t hold Bakers jock.

I wouldn’t touch Taylor with a 10 foot pole.
I’d be good with Smith or Cousins.
The QB I would want isn’t from Oklahoma he goes to Oklahoma State. I would like Josh Allen in the second if Ben returns.
Mayfield reminds me of Manziel, no thanks. Small, runs around and throws it around like it’s street football, that doesn’t transition to NFL success.

And what will Ben do if we play and coach like children against the pats again in a playoff game ?
If we win a SB he is back - a repeat of last year and I believe he may quit

I would be very surprised if Ben decides to retire after this season. This is not to say that he's incapable of creating more drama over his status, as he did at the end of last season; the drama is something we've come to expect. It's hard to know exactly what the Steelers think of the other QBs currently on the roster; if there is some stubborn faith in what's there, it's not faith I find convincing. Most likely they'll look to add another QB somewhere in the draft.

I know most of you diasagree with me, but I still think the Steelers should go after McCarron after this year. A.J. would be
a good replacement for Ben, and since the Bengals don't want him, maybe we could get him.

We won't have a top ten pick obviously.

That and he's a head case. The intelligent thing to do would be make a play for Andrew Luck. He shouldn't command much with injury concerns and turnover problems.

He's got a similar skill set to Ben.

Bullshit, Baker is fucking great. You want to talk about "street" football yet Ben played like that all his career. I don't agree with bashing Manziel either. He played for Cleveland- Cleveland ruins qbs.

My only knock on Mayfield is that he is not accurate in tight windows. When he has to make a thrown in tight coverage it is not very good. That may be correctable but he could suffer from being a system QB.

Teams will roll the dice on Darnold but the guy is a turnover machine. He would need a year to fix his mechanics and pound some sense into his head.

Rosen is the safest but still meh. He should not start right away and does not give you the "it" factor of Darnold.

Lamarr Jackson may be the best QB but I have not seen enough of his games to judge his accuracy.

I would still roll the dice on Fitzgerald. Cannon for an arm and can make the throws into tight coverage.

Mayfield will be a bust. Manziel part deux.
Allen has size, can run, big arm, he has the tools to develop, he has no help-playing with him.
Rudolph is the one you want in the first, followed by Darnold, and then Rosen from reports Rosen is a rich spoiled brat, who’s not liked in the locker room.
Jackson will be another RG3, runner/scrambler who won’t stay healthy in the NFL, take out a knee and he’ll have no game.
Pocket passers, over scramblers.

You guys who have been around a while know I'm a TN guy, and I know those players well. I don't bs about which ones can make it at the next level and which can't. Dobbs is a really exceptional player and person. Look at what happened to TN this year without him. He was the team on and off the field. He's a workaholic who just constantly incrementally improves. Don't count him out yet.
