The Steelers will go for need and grab OLB and DB with the first two picks, maybe even two DBs. This should surprise nobody. The QB and WR talk early are just that, talk.

They are in a unique position to grab a great player in the 3rd round at a huge position of need. Gareon Conley's stock went from Top 20 to undrafted this week. Rumors floating now say some team will draft him in late round 3 or round 4. The latest on his case shows video of him and the female leaving a club together, this contradicts her story that she met him in a hotel elevator at 3am. Conley could be a day 1 starter, the Steelers can't let PR get in the way of taking a great player. Lael Collins all over again. Sidney Jones is injured, but maybe the top corner in this draft. Take him in round 3 and hope you get something from him this year, if not he is a big asset next season. Either of these players represent. Huge steal and a big splash in the draft showing the team is all in to win now. Make it happen!

The defense was very bad at covering passes over the middle of the field. Don't be surprised if the first pick is a safety like Obi or Budda Baker. The draft is deeper at CB and they can get one down the line a bit.

RB2 is a big need, but would it be bad if they didn't address the position until round 5 or so and brought back Deangelo Williams for one more run? Too many other pressing needs.

Speaking of needs, the top TE here is still Jesse James which makes this position the biggest offensive need. Martavis Bryant is back and there is still hope for Rogers and Coates to emerge as depth guys. A third round TE makes a lot of sense, moreso than a WR.

Day 2 will make or break this draft for the Steelers.

Some dumbass teams will panic and move up into late round 1 for a QB. Could see 5 of them go in round 1.

Steelers are in a unique position?

I'd say the entire league has been presented with the same position:

Any team could make the argument that Conley would be a steal.

I also see LBer and CB or S with first 2 picks.

If and only if Njoku slides, you have to consider adding a TE of his caliber at 30. But I don't think there is any chance he is there when we pick.

I'm sticking to my mock in terms of what I hope and want:

Davis in the first to play alongside Shazpussy

And Rivers in the 2nd for the edge presence

Clearly, the Steelers biggest issues defensively were Gay, Robert Golden/Dangerfield in nickel/dime, Edge rush, Mike Mitchell in coverage and last line of defense, Lawrence Timmons in coverage, Deebo in coverage... in approximately that order.

I think they want a bigger/longer nickel back-- more Deone Buchannon than Honey Badger. Could be a safety with CB skills, could be a CB with length/size. Maybe both. An OLB who can either rush AND cover or a starting ILB who can. Wouldn't rule out a #2 CB or a centerfielder safety later in draft.

Chidobe Awuzie-Kevin King- Quincy Wilson- Howard Wilson-Shaquill Griffin-Brian Allen-Cordrea Tankersley- Obi-Josh Jones-David Jones-Brandon Wilson for that nickel back spot.

Just going to throw this out there....

Evan Engram at pick 30 is not going to surprise me at all.

I would be shocked. No idea why people think that is a remote possibility.

Good stuff Perch. Kevin King intrigues me. Watched him plenty at UW, he's got all the tools. Would love him in black and gold.

well .. I missed an entry for the mock so I will run my mouth here.

I will be thoroughly surprised if they don't go two DBs or DB/LB in rounds 1 and 2. Williams smacks of a Tomlin pick but will see if DB trumps that. The last two years the steelers have completely caught me by surprise with their first round picks. And the latest mocks I see seem to be really heavy on DBs early and often. So not sure what would be there for them to legitimately pick at DB at 1.30 except maybe Peppers. I am not keen on him. I am not very good at locating edge rushers -- so can anyone say if there are any surprise picks there they could take at 1.30? Too bad we don't need an OT as I think there are a few good ones in this draft early.

To guess now, I think the Steelers will take WIlliams with the first pick and moreau or griffin in round 2

I have a side non-Steeler prediction. The Cards and Arians will draft Mahomes in round 1 and trade up if they think they need to.

Not saying I would like it, just reading he is moving up boards quickly.

Yeah and I wasn't attacking you. I've just seen three mocks now with Engram at 30. I don't see it. It's not their MO and he's not the kind of guy they typically target.

This assume Njoku is gone of course....so that would be 3 TEs in first round. Anyone know how rare that is?

No, wouldn't surprise me and based on the tape I've scrubbed in my war room, I would not be upset at all.
