I hate to break it to you, but most professional athletes are entitled douchebags not worthy of hero worship for anything but their athletic ability. Remember the small town celebrities on your high school football team? Multiple that by 1000 and you've got the ego of an NFL player. Hines Ward is one of the most beloved guys in the history of the team and, by all accounts, he's a fucking asshole in real life. Most of the time, what you see in interviews is carefully crafted and utterly false.

There are exceptions, sure. Charlie Batch seems like a decent guy, as does Chris Hoke. Ike Taylor seems cool. But if you bumped into Le'Veon Bell in a bar and spilled your drink on his shoes? I'm sure you'd come away with a story about how he's an arrogant, entitled piece of shit.

I remember meeting Greg Lloyd when I was 11 and being totally awestruck. Knowing what I know now, I don't think I'd let my kid talk to him.

I hate to sound like Nick, but if you value these guys for more than entertainment purposes, you're being naive.

Oh, I don't give a shit about these guys other than on the football field.

It just pisses me off that these are the people that kids look up to instead of someone worthy. I'm sure AB pays for his kids, he's filthy rich. That doesn't make him a good father. I have respect for the guys like Charlie Batch because that says A TON about their character.

If millions of dollars don't morph you into an asshole, you're worthy of everyone's respect. It's the offseason and this post is about a Steelers player, so it fits.

"good" being a relative term, of course...

Love is sacrifice.

These situations are still not the absolute best for the kids' sake...
The limitations that such situations are subject to are directly impacted by the limits of what AB or your friend are willing to sacrifice for the sake of their own kids...
These things could have been better thought through before they decided to involve other human beings in their self-centered limitations.

Just sayin'...

Here's hoping they make the best of their situations going forward, for the kids' sake, and that we can all take note of how we should and should not treat our own situations...
...and if we have kids of our own or one day hope to, for their sake as much as ours...

And why I've always been a big Heath and Troy fan. I'm not sure being pro athletes changed these men much at all - certainly not for the worse. In one word, HUMBLE!

He's got two children with two different women, and recently left his pregnant (5th child) wife for an Instagram model. He's obviously an entitled piece of shit who only cares about AB. If you want to bang a bunch of hot women due to your celebrity, ya wear a fucking condom. If he wasn't a superstar WR, nobody would want him in a Steelers uniform.

End rant.

Who cares? As long as he makes my TV Show more entertaining, I don't care about those women and kids. He's not my role model, not my friend, not my brother, I never plan to have a beer with him, all he is to me is a character on my favorite TV SHOW, so as long as he performs at a high level, I want him on my team, when that stops, kick his ass to the curb with no sentimentality.

There's what, like 10 species that mate for life??

I know I spent a good portion of my life really believing pussy was gold.

Most addictive drug there is IMO.

But those are the words of an addict...

Agree 100%.

Sorry FC, your buddy isn't a good role model for those kids. There's no way in hell he can be a great father just because he pays for em. Being a dad means physically being there and spending time, not popping out as many kids as you can because you don't like condoms.

Seems like AB & FC's friend need to take a trip to the doctor for a lil snip snip.

Then they can slay all the pussy they want without fathering more children.

I refrained from commenting in here for a while only to be compelled to make a comment against my own better judgement and at risk of personal attacks. Antonio may be a bum in some folks eyes but to me he is a victim of circumstance. If he wasn't as famous and wealthy likely this 'appalling scenario' is not even cared about. This sorta situation is common and an everyday occurrence. I agree from a traditional perspective this is less than morally acceptable especially in today's society. More importantly you'd think these women had complete control in this situation. Having the ability to make that ultimate decision whether to open up their thighs when consensual. Unless they were raped it was a decision and thereby consensual. So, since they did consensually open up those thighs doesn't that make them as responsible? Don't you find that these women are just as much to blame as Antonio is? So if Antonio is labeled a bum than what's that make these women? In the end it doesn't matter one Fucking Iota what anyone thinks. It's their business and None of Ours.

The women were/are either

A. In love with Antonio before he left them
B. Money seeking whores
C. A combo of both

And one of my best friends has 7 baby mamas and 9 kids. He doesn't have a good job or pay much support, but he spends a lot of time with all of those kids and cares about them very much. He even became a step father to several of the baby mamas kids from other guys. Dude claims like 12 kids as his own. Some think he's a dirt bag for irresponsibly making all of those kids. I can't disagree, but he at least cares for them and makes an effort to be in their lives. If AB pays the support and is in the kids lives, I can't judge. I think it's the wrong way to go about things, but oh well.

I don't watch TV sports from the perspective of expecting the people on the TV screen to be beacons of morality. I just want to be entertained. I'm not going to do extreme vetting of the personal lives of the characters in my TV SHOW, I just want the best PERFORMERS possible when I'm watching, I don't want poor performers who DON'T ENTERTAIN and LOSE, but later I am told they are good fathers and husbands. It doesn't matter! Like I said, they aren't my friends, they aren't my brothers, I'm never going to have a beer with them and I don't even want to. When I watch a rock concert, do I care if the performers are on heroin? NO. If I watch a movie or TV show with Charlie Sheen, do I care if he's a substance abusing immoral dick? NO. I personally equate sports to those things, it's NOTHING MORE than an entertainment option. Geeeez! When did this obsession with these assholes private lives get so big? I don't remember it being so constant and in your face when I was a kid! When Arrowhead Holmes shot a gun at a police helicopter that made less news than this! And people wher HAPPY that Rooney got him of so he could keep playing.

For one who "works" in the modern information tech industry to be so completely clueless as to it's effects on society is also very telling, Nick...

For all you deep thinkers out there, allow me to pose a thought question:

If our founding fathers were alive today attempting to establish this, the greatest nation on the planet, in this day and age, do you think they would succeed?
Do you think they would be allowed to succeed?!

Consider Thomas Jefferson penning words like "we hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal"
...meanwhile, back in Monticello, there were lighter-skinned children of his slaves running around with his striking resemblance...

Thank God things went down the way they did, when they did...

Nick, I certainly understand your 'entertainment' point, but it seems to me, with the Steelers at least (and Pens, and many other teams you seem to discuss here), you have an awful lot invested in "just entertainment." Just curious, but do you invest this much time/money/energy in all of your entertainment choices? When/if you go to a local bar/restaurant and a band is playing, do you do deep research about them, like what band they were in before, how long they have played, what brand of instrument they paly...etc...and then chat about them online for hours a day? Do you buy their t-shirts and music every year and each year after? It seems with all of the different ways you seem to be "entertained" I don't see how there's enough time in the day to complete your entertainment process with all of your chosen entertainers. Just wondering, really not trying to be a jerk.
