Why not say buy buy to Matakevich first - he's useless!

I know Matakevich makes less but it sure seemed like Bostic had more to offer. Even if Bush is a starter day one, who's the backup?

They'll save approximately $1.8 Mil with this move...with $700K dead money.

Matakevich plays ST and Bostic doesn't and that's why he stayed. Bostic was the better LB by far though but w/ Barron and now Bush added to fold he was made expendable.

Who's next?
According to who was drafted and UDFA's signed...
Matakevich
Boswell
Berry
Rogers
Burns
McCullers

I think Boswell is the only guy on this list that will be on the roster come September.

I really hope Boswell has a bounce back season. That's the best scenario for both he and the Steelers. After Boswell fell of the planet with terrible misses then sort-a got back into kicking more accurate was still very inconsistent. I'll be rooting for all players in a Steeler jersey. I know not all will make it.

I don’t know if he’ll rebound or not, a lot of times when a kicker loses it like he did, they don’t get it back, but I expect the Steelers will give him every chance to do so, due to that ridiculous 5 year contract.

Danny Smith is still special teams coach. Berry isn’t going anywhere unfortunately.

So serious question: was cutting him due to:

1) His play
OR
2) His pay?

Because I didn't think he was flat out awful last year nor do I think what he makes is egregious

If you're not paying Vince what you are, and he's not really tight with Shazier, and he's not viewed as such a emotional leader, then I think Bostic could stay and Vince could maybe go. I think they liked Bostic and cut him immediately (after fulfilling Tomlin's NFL wet dream by drafting Derrick Brooks' godson) out of respect for him in hopes they he can soon catch on somewhere.

Side note - FWIW, if I knew Bush was Brooks' godson I would've had him in every slot in the mock draft contest. If you could pick one past NFL player that Tomlin was in ultimately in love with it's Derrick Brooks. The Bush run up and grab has Tomlins hands all over it!

Bostic didn't play teams, and the 4th ILB must help there.

Bostic played well in stretches but man could he get swallowed up by the line during runs. I'm probably one of the very few that still is high on Williams. But with Bush and Barron in the fold now, Vince really has to up his game from last season

No, but he is not fast enough to be very useful there. The rumor is that his agent asked the Steelers to let him go so he could catch on with someone else before camps start.

Good look with the FO releasing him if this is true

I think Boswell had an injury in his plant foot/leg that he played through. If given the chance to heal he will be back on track.

Everything being equal, Bostic is by far the superior player and backup(if he didn't get cut) however special teams are that important, even though no matter who Danny Smith puts back there will have no effect. If Bostic had never played ST much in the past how difficult would it be to step in and be productive? Bostic filled in pretty admirably, had a few nice games, but nobody should be shocked with his release.

Is this Matakevich's last year on his rookie deal?

The collective distain I have for the worthless FA class of Bostic and Burnett eclipses even the waste of roster space that was Ladarius Green. Consider myself shocked that such disgust is physically possible.
