On a side note, they can get 5 top 100 players by trading a package of 4th, 5th and 6th round picks to get an extra 3rd.

with 10 draft picks and UDFA's heading to camp,
how many of those 10 draft picks will actually make the final 53.

Look at a normal year of 7 draft picks and think of haw many make the team on average thru the years?
5? 6? with 2 or 3 making the practice squad each year.

No question, moving some of those later draft picks to grab another 3rd or 4th rounder is real good math when you look at the numbers game of having to throw 3-4-5 of those 10 picks out the door come final cuts.

I think I'd rather sign Jamie Collins than Tre Boston. I'm sure there are some safeties in this draft, I'm not sure there are Mack ILBs better than Collins.

I think this an excellent year to make 10 selections. Lots of needs and the bottom of the roster ought to be completely overhauled.

Pats just cut Adrian Clayborn. Speculation I've seen on Twitter is that they intend to sign Justin Houston to replace him.

Houston doesn't fit a 4-3. At all.

Pats are really multiple on defense

Some will argue they were a nickel 3 safety base last year.

We shall see....Houston to New England would make sense in the sense the Pats making these type of signings work.

New England has far bigger issues IMO...They lost there best run defender and the most important player on that defense when Malcom Brown signed with the Saints.

Can we just get this guy signed already and be done with it?

Jesus, Colbert! Sign him so you don't get sniped!

From the reports as of last night, Steelers had interest and brought him in. Houston also had interest, so it came down to contract negotiations. Since then crickets...fill in your own blanks.

What rhymes with “snowball”...

Ah yes- the Steelers' antiquated way of structuring contracts...

How so?

Like the steelers need more players that want to dictate their own terms or determine how they are played?

I’d rather add Collins and Cook, then Houston.

I will put this out there, maybe the Steelers are done in free agency and are concerned about holding money to extend young players to new contracts in August.

No, Burns is not going to be given a new contract or have a 5th year option applied to him.

But Sean Davis and Javon Hargraves?? Sure, I can see the Steelers giving both of them new contracts in August.

So, what would both of those contracts look like?? I know DT Eddie Goldman of the Bears was given a 4 year $42 million contract. He was entering his 4th season and was given a new contract in September right before the season began. I can see the Steelers doing the same with Javon as he is entering his 4th season and the tape on him gets better and better, best to sign him in Aug/Sep before he becomes a double digit sack artist and the money increases.

5 years, $50 million? 4 years, $45 million?? Something along those lines.

Sean Davis. Again, 4-5 year deal, maybe $7 million per season, so, 4 years, $28-30 million???

Ben and Haden given new extensions to free up money may be used not to sign Justin Houston/whoever, but instead to sign Sean Davis and Javon Hargrave to new deals in August.

Am I alone that thinks Hargraves is a JAG? I not digging him at all gets pushed around and sucks in the run game, he should be a 4-3 DT, not a NT in a 3-4.

No you are not! And paying him $10-11 mil per is insane. So of course the Steelers will...

I wouldn't be disappointed if they selected a DLineman in the 1st round either. There are several I really think fit the Steelers defense that can be selected in the first 2 days of the draft.

I will be shocked if the Steelers re-up Hargraves.

I think the Steelers have fallen in love with Dexter Lawrence and he will be the Steelers pick in the 1st round.

I think Michigan CB David Long will be the 2nd round pick.

I have been saying it awhile...I believe the Steelers roll with Vincenzo Red Scales and Bostic inside

I agree Davis is going to get extended

Christ we got enough dl. They're less important in todays game anyway. Ball's out in 2 secs, hardly any running game. Stillers are gonna have to find a real mlb one way or the other. We're fucked without one.

Hargrave has become more acquainted with the nose position. Wonder if this is due to Dunbar? His 2018 stats prove he's gotten much better than his first couple seasons. Had 6.5 sacks in 16 games [14 of which he started] along with 1 PD. 44 total tackles with 27 coming solo. At least he came close to matching his production from his first two seasons combined last season. ;)

Big $$ already going to Heyward and Tuitt, woild be absolutely idiotic to throw a substantial contract at Hargraves. Jesus. If you want to invest on DL do it cheaply through the draft. leave some goddamn flexibility.

Here's the way I look at it. Forget AB's dead money - that was already factored in. Colbert was set to pay AB another $39M over the next 3 years. He also was prepared to pay Bell an average of $14M per year. That was future cap space - $27M per year - that is or was committed that you have available to use elsewhere.

That's all before Bell sat out last year saving $14.5M. You can even go back the year before when they offered Bell $12M per year, and planning to give Shazier a big contract into future years.

In my book, that all adds up to at least two top-tier FA's.
