Seems to be hinting at something soon.

Justin Houston perhaps?

Would need to be worth it considering our next signing would cost us a 2020 third rounder for Bell's compensation.

EDIT: If Justin Houston, it wouldn't affect the compensatory formula since he was released by the Chiefs and not an UFA.

Saw another tweet (Kaboly I think) that says NFLPA has Steelers at $6.5m under the cap.

Ben's extension will free anywhere from 5-8 million depending on the signing bonus and how long it is. I'm still somewhat confused why they haven't cut Morgan Burnett yet as designating him a post June 1st cut would free another 5 million. There are always restructures to be made as well.

Interesting in the comments that Houston has begun following several Steelers players on Twitter over the last day or less. For what it's worth.

I checked, it's not true. He only follows Joe Haden and has for some time.

The Steelers might not be quite done in free agency. All I can say at this time.

The only thing I can figure is that they think they can get something via trade around draft time...

I've said it a few times, Bell isn't getting us a 3rd round comp pick. There's been 8-10 free agents sign bigger contracts.

Even still, my guess is the value of the comp picks associated with our losses and signings is:

Bell - 4th
James - 5th or 6th
Fort - nothing

Nelson - 5th
Moncrief - 5th or 6th (assuming $5-6M contract).

James and Moncrief cancel one another one. Nelson then actually cancels Bell out because we didn't lose anyone else of equal value. Signings always cancel out players equal or greater value to their own contract.

Justin Houston...reason being for me,,,there seems to be alot of smoke with him and us and i havent heard one other team rumored to be after him. That dude you shared the link from on Twitter may as well close his account down if it isnt true. Hes been wrong before but hes really going all in on this one.

I could see that for his bullshit trade request.

That's not accurate. Current projection is he still we get us a 3rd round pick as his APY still puts him in the top 5% of the league.

Here's a great resource to check out that tracks this stuff: https://overthecap.com/compensatory-draft-picks-cancellation-chart/

It was reported it would be done by Friday.

He also claimed Tate was about to sign with the Pats...so there’s that.

Just seems like if it was a dumpster dive type of signing Lolley wouldnt even tweet about it. That tweet seemed to have a subliminal thing going on that was someone worth keeping it a secret. Or am i reading more into it and just hoping this?

Thanks for the correction. Still a decent chance my point will still stand regarding Nelson canceling out Bell. It will all depend on Moncrief, his value isn't known yet. If his signing has 5th round value then he will cancel out James and Nelson will cancel out Bell.

This stuff is complicated as hell, but I don't believe that is accurate either.

The qualifying UFAs are assigned a round value by the NFL. The only way a lower ranked round player can cancel out a higher ranked round player is if there are no other qualifying players to cancel out. Otherwise, a lower ranked round player cannot cancel out a player assigned a higher round.

Example:

Lost:
3rd round FA
6th round FA
7th Round FA

Signed:
4th round FA
4th round FA

= The signed 4th round FA would cancel out the 6th round FA, the other signed 4th round FA would cancel out the 7th round, and we would receive a 3rd round compensatory pick. The signed 4th round FAs would not qualify to cancel out the 3rd round FA that was lost, they can only cancel out equal round and lower qualifying players. But, if it was:

Lost:
3rd round FA
5th round FA
7th round FA

Signed:
5th round FA
5th round FA
7th round FA

= We get nothing. The 7th round lost/signed would cancel each other out, the 5th round signed/lost would cancel out, and the other 5th round FA would in fact cancel out the 3rd round lost FA since there are no other available lost FAs to cancel out.

So as long as our qualifying signed FAs (2 right now in Moncrief and Nelson) doesn't equal the amount of our lost qualifying FAs (3 with Bell, James, and Nelson), or as long as we don't sign a UFA with the same round value of Bell, we should get a third.

Take it for what its worth....A very smart man told me to watch out for

Jamie Collins and Jared Cook

Both could be done by the weekend

Ben's extension should be done and announced by Monday

Whats your opinion on Collins? Browns fans did not care for him too much.
