I asked this in another thread (although it wasn't me who originated the question):

When was the last time Tomlin beat a more talented team in the playoffs?

Looking through the link that Steelafan77 provided, man are we a sloppy team in the playoffs. 21 TOs in our last 11 playoff games since we won the SB.

The fans need to run this ass out on a rail. He's trashed the Steelers franchise, with a little help from his idiot owner

We are now Mike Browns Bungles

Ouch! That shows how bad Tomlin has been in post season.
But he keeps hanging onto the "I never had a losing season" to Rooney.

What a frightening fact

How often did Cowher do it?

Actually...how often did Noll do it?

Well to be fair, there weren’t many “more talented” teams for Noll’s Steelers to face.

I suppose some of Noll's 1980s playoff wins, they may have been the underdog. They won a game at Denver I think in '84 and at Houston in '89? they ended up in the AFCCG vs. Marino and the Dolphins in '84, may have been some overachieving there?

Guys, this is all just smoke-and-mirrors futility.

The only way Mikey T's team ever makes the playoffs is because the buy in of, and superstar talent of the individual players he fields is enough to overcome his pitiful shortcomings...

Consequently, in the playoffs, he will never field the "worse" team.

Also, as a consequence, when that team full of superstar talent falls short of the playoffs, chaos ensues as they try to sort out why...

Both very memorable games, and I believe they were underdogs in what remains the top Steelers win of all time..the '74 AFCCG at Oakland.

Hard to look back and quantify “better”.

Was there an injury on either side when teams played, situation at time, how teams were playing at the time. Not an easy look back.

It is easy to look back and see that Cowher took a 6 seed on the road to knock off the #1, #2, and #3 seeds from the AFC and then proceeded to knock of the NFC’s #1 seed in the SB.

Was also the first time a 6 seed had done such a thing.

Tomlin has never had such a run.

And in fact, has spent nearly the past decade getting embarrassed in the playoffs.

Noll > Cowher > Buttermaker > Tomlin

Yeah, because the 70s Oakland Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Rams, Houston Oilers, Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers and Cincinnati Bengals all sucked. Really? My God, the level of competition back then was off the charts. So much better than today's, it's not even funny. That's what made the 70's Steelers so great is that they managed to win four Super Bowls in that period against that kind of competition.

As to Poltargyst's question, Noll's Steelers did it three times - 1974 vs. Oakland as Swiss pointed out. Also, 1984 vs. Broncos in Denver and 1989 vs. Oilers in the Astrodome and nearly did it week later vs. Broncos in Denver losing only by a point. Mark fuckin' Stock.

Where did I say those teams sucked? I’m focusing on “more talented” which was the question. Those opponents were good to very good. Few, if any, were more talented...until we get into the 80s teams.

Tomlin is on the short bus........ Ed Bouchette now thinks he wont be extended (heard on the fan), he's guardedly changed his opinion on saying was going to be extended. Must have gotten some additional crumbs from EMR.

Fire the guns......he's dead man walking. Lame Duck Dumbo!!!

99% of the fans polled say he they want him gone!!!

Keep the heat on peeps

That Colts team completely kicked the shit out of Cowher's squad on a Monday night in 2005.

It was total domination.

They had eight Pro Bowlers. They were clearly a more talented team than the Steelers that year.

Chuck Noll beat Joe Montana's San Francisco 49er's in San Francisco with Mark Malone as QB, mediocre defense and terrible offense It was 49er's only loss that season when they went 15-1 and won the Superbowl. The coach on the other side was Bill Walsh.
