Replay assistant? LMAO, that would mean Tomlin admitting he was wrong.

My guess is it's a QB coach for Rudolph and Dobbs.

A situational awareness specialist. Timeouts, challenges, clock mgmt etc.

I'm just not sure the current fraud in charge is humble enough to listen to this person.

Most likely this is the case.

Not seeing this story as very “cryptic”.

If Munchak is passed over in Denver for Fangio which I think is about to unfold I give Munchak the assistant head coaching title and all authority included dismissing Mitchell and call it a day. Munchak has head coaching experience and would be an improvement over Mitchell. This way Munchak stays and has a shot at the actual head coaching gig in Pittsburgh next season after Tomlin fails again. Win/Win

This.

Terrible to say, but I hope Munch loses out to Fangio so a scenario similar to this can play out.

Rudy maybe benefits, you could channel Otto Graham, move Dobbs into a dormitory with Joe Montana Terry Bradshaw and Bart Star as roommates and he will still be unable to throw a short pass, throw with touch, read a defense. The pass he threw against Baltimore is the luckiest pass this guy's ever thrown in his life except for the last minute bomb against Georgia in his junior year. Asshole Tomlin decided he wanted to see what Dobbs had in the Oakland game and that malpractice cost us a playoff spot. Dobbs never should have been elevated to the starting job in Tennessee, that was a decision made by Butch Jones who is not qualified to be head coach in a major conference like the SEC, the same Butch Jones who used Kamara as a change of pace while assistant coaches were clamoring for Kamara to be the featured back. Dobbs couldn't wash T Martin's socks. Dobbs is emblematic of the stupidity that runs through Tomlin and the decisions this guy makes. Dobbs had a couple of high points in his college career like that pass against Georgia or like that pass against Baltimore. But those were few and far between, he was well below the standard for an average SEC quarterback and his tapes prove it. So again the question arises is Tomlin stupid or is he lazy?

YES! Very dangerous combination of things too. Stupid and Lazy in other professions get you killed.

Does this mean Tomlin is going on ICE and only doing post game interviews with his line of BS? Getting replaced or fired or wtf??

I'll shoot for WTF

Rooney has boxed himself in, he can't fire this incompetent so all he can do is give him help in the areas where he's deficient which means every phase of the game and job. Once every significant decision and every maneuver that has to be made has been outsourced to someone else Rooney could hire a robot and a ventriloquist.

What if coach incompetent, in a private meeting with Rooney told him he's in over his head and can't handle any it? The solution would be either terminate him or hire lots of assistants to take over all responsibilities. Of course that meeting probably never occurred but my point is hiring assistants would have been the same result if that meeting did occur.

I have to admit it's posts like these that make us look bad here when we're supposed to be rational.

Mike Tomlin has many shortcomings as a head coach that make me believe we won't ever sniff a Super Bowl again with him at the helm.

But he's not a complete and utter moron, and there's no reason to keep making him out to be.

Agreed. I've seen people make this comparison before, but I view him as similar to Bylsma's term in Pittsburgh. Not necessarily in style, but in effectiveness. I think he's a guy that can step into a new head coaching gig, rally the guys there and win a championship with them in the first few years, assuming the talent is there.

But he's also a guy whose style has a shelf life. It goes from "Yeah, this guy has our back, I'll go through wall for him!" to "Oh, I can do what I want. I won't get in trouble. Mikey has my back!". And once that happens, you need to move on.

The Pens were smart enough to realize that and moved on and won two more championships.

The Steelers have not.

Just read that Fangio is believed to be the front runner in Denver with a decision as soon as today.

Elevate Munchak quickly so he doesn't leave.

I want Tomlin out asap. But, hiring a coach for situational awareness is a solution that should have been explored years ago. Tomlin may not be a total dumbass, but he doesn't have the cognitive abilities to do proper clock management. Some people can do the permutations in their head and others cannot. No shame in admitting your weakness.

If he knew how to manage end of game sequences, we are likely 10-5-1 and maybe even 11-4-1. Hiring someone for those scenarios is a no brainer if you are going to keep Tomlin around.

Tomlin sold himself as some sort of strategist when he was hired.

He's anything but a fucking strategist. He's a fucking cheerleader. He's Bill Cowher 2.0 except Cowher was far better at building complete teams. Cowher's biggest shortcoming was that he didn't (like a fucking imbecile) value the QB position.

Tomlin may not be a complete moron, but he most certainly IS a fraud.

100% a fraud.

That would make too much sense.

You make Munchak assistant head coach and Tomlin starts feeling the heat.

Major, major heat.

Are we making him out to be a moron or is he continually doing things that leave us but little choice to call him a moron?

Hard not to call the man a moron when he does things like coming back from Oakland with a time out still in pocket.

That just can’t be defended and exposes how shockingly poor the man’s thought process is.

One thing I have noticed with Tomlin over the years is a fundamental problem weighing risk/reward.

He takes risks when their unnecessary, and doesn't take them when they are necessary.

I'm not sure if this is a cognitive issue, or just an inability to analyze multiple scenarios and potential outcomes at the same time.

Fangio to Denver...official.

Freddie Kitchens Cleveland's new coach.

Now elevate Munchak, Fire Butler and Hire Greg Williams. I know, put the pipe down Charles.
