47.4% challenges won

46.4% challenges won
46.2% challenges won
44.0% challenges won
42.9% challenges won

One of those is Mike Tomlin and the others are John Harbaugh, Doug Pedersen, & Pete Carroll, Andy Reid, Sean McVay, Bill Belichick, Mike Zimmer, & Sean Payton.

before i play the game...
Is that career record...

Or Do those percentages include his 0-2 yesterday and 0-3 last 2 weeks.

Which means he is getting worse.
And thought i saw he is 3-15 since 2015...

Hence, he certainly trending downward as he gains more knowledge and experience.

this just in:

First off, everyone is trending worse in the last few years, because they are overturning fewer and fewer challenges (letting the play stand as called unless there is incontrovertible evidence)

Also, a couple of those Tomlin challenge losses were just plain ridiculous (Santonio Holmes vs the Ravens crawling towards the goal line, for instance)

Thirdly, this kind of stuff ebbs and flows and it all more or less evens out over time, with very little difference in success between the best and the worst.

Lastly, sometimes a challenge is called for even on a play you're not sure you'll win, just because of the risk-reward. Just like sometimes it's better to call a TO, rather than take the penalty or the result of the play.

Jessie James Pats game?
Wasn't that an official review of a play called a TD and not considered a challenge?

Ends up being a coin flip for all coaches is what I’ve learned today.

I would say simply by looking at "percentages" would be difficut to determine if a coach is good or not at making challenges.

Which QB do you choose to lead you to the SB.

The QB with a....
75.5 % completion percentage.
71.7%
70.2%
69.6%
68.7%
67.8%
65.1%
63.0%

The first 5 include J.Winston, D. Carr, M. Trubitsky, M. Ryan, and Eli Manning.

The bottom three....

Brady
Ben
Rodgers.

FYI.
D. BREES 77.9%

Perfectly stated, Stosh. I feel the exact same way.

No statistic is going to convince me that Tomlin didn't screw the pooch by not challenging Conner's TD on the 6' line. I'm not upset; we won. I just know if Tomlin doesn't learn - which it appears he doesn't - it puts us at a disadvantage out of the gate.
