Ben said on his radio show that the elbow injury suffered in OT week 1 caused him to change his release point and that causes the ball to sail on him.

Explains a lot.

Ok, here we are over a month later and it’s still an issue. Way too many passes sailing.

Did he mention how long he thinks it’s gonna affect him?

What this doesn't explain is why he's floating rainbows into a pack of defenders in the end zone. His reads/decision making haven't been great so far this year.

However, Ben normally gets hot right around this time. So I'm not going to be surprised when he starts to tear it up moving forward.

I didn't get to watch on Sunday, but saw the replay on NFL Network last night. I knew it was coming and I still yelled "what the fuck Ben?!" Total fucking lollipop.

He got told by someone on the staff to shut the fuck up because the next day he said it's not a big deal and he needs to work on his mechanics.

So who knows?

We hit this on our podcast.

Ben's motion with the elbow issue is more like a U than the proper C.

In other words he is more sidearm than throwing over the top

2nd Half of the Falcons game his motion was more over the top and he was 10-12

Elbow issues can linger...I think he is catching some flak because of his past diva behavior

Great post. I would tend to dismiss his excuse, but if you've seen a change in the throwing motion than that backs it up.

Elbow injuries can be a real bitch. Golfer/Tennis elbow (which is basically tendinitis) take rest and therapy to heal properly. Not saying that's what the injury is, but it would explain the lack of touch when throwing with velocity (and deep balls). And who knows,

Ben may adjust and adapt and be fine - which, if he's changed his throwing motion like you say, the accuracy and success he's had is pretty amazing. Of course, Manning still managed to have a monster year, and then win a SB, just adjusting to his complete lack of velocity because he still had great accuracy on the short/intermediate throws.

LOL, was thinking that as I wrote it. Of course, he's been taking those days for several years.

If he gets an actual 1-1.5 weeks of rest during the bye that may be huge. And we play the Browns [sarcafont], so it's like a scrimmage to get back into after the bye week rust!

If you have a strain or minor tear of that tendon, then every day you go out and throw it's getting inflamed again. Speaking from experience, you can function pretty well once you're warmed up...but then certain angles and/or force can be painful and weak. You can imagine in that scenario how tough it would be to throw an accurate deep ball.

This thread makes my Head hurt.

50% bitch about Ben and ask what is wrong...there is something wrong! Sky is falling, get the backup in.

Then Ben admits what he thinks is wrong, and it makes perfect sense.

That doesn’t do it for the 50% above...he is faking or the excuse is BS.

Talking out of both sides of your mouths.

Chances are, when QB play suffers it is mechanics, arm, feet, squareness of hips or shoulders.

Perfectly logical, but it must be something else!

I think you posted this based on what you thought the thread was going to be like instead of what was actually written.

Unless I'm not getting the posts you're bitching about, discussion seemed pretty mild and rational to me.

LOL. It was a preemptive post. I guess my Ben bias is showing. Reread and I was reading a bit into the posts. Must be residual radiation from other threads and posts! :D

I am a trend starter! A new thing you heard here first; the preemptive post.

For the most part, I thought his throws looked much better today. Several pretty good deep balls [that he had been missing by about 5 yards].

CIN got away with a ton of mugging or it could have been another 500+ day for Ben. As it was, he completed almost 2/3 of his passes at 8.0 YPA.

Also, that final drive and that 3rd and 2 sneak....Ben is a baller who is net better freed of Haley. But Fitchner might not be what Ben really needs.

Meh, 'The Grey' is the better alias IMO.

Much better game this week.
Was watching online at a party, so missed a few plays here and there
Do not recall him sailing many or any high throws?

Spread ball around nicely.

Much improved play calling after first quarter.
And biggest thing for me was....
Some element of surprise here and there. Grimble miss direction pass to right.
Ben roll left on a third down conversion.

Still need to see better play selection, scheme, element of surprise in red zone, inside five.

Sailing, no, but he threw a lot of balls very much on the upper echelon of the "catch radius". And the 3-4 forementioned near picks. People are saying he had a good game....it was inches from being a disaster.

He was Neil O'Donnell accurate today....not Ben accurate. But better than most of his first 5 games.

I think he was decent. He got away with some throws (every QB gets away with 1-2 most weeks). And there were 3-4 blatant DPI's that inexplicably weren't called.

Beat CLE and BAL and the stench of the first 5 games will be behind us.

The first drive or two has been horrendous every game. If they can figure that out this offense will flirt with 40 per game.
