Yeah, I think pretty much everyone has been in a workplace situation and you have one or two coworkers that just suck the life and joy out of everything. To the point where it makes the work environment a miserable place to be and having to deal with that day to day grinds on you.

I have had to work with some of these malcontents and when they finally got the boot, parties with cake and celebrations were held afterwards, it was that bad. I am not saying it was that bad with the Steelers but some of the comments from Dupree and others sure made it seem that way.

I am hoping that maybe with the exit of Bryant and Harrison and the coaching changes from Mitchell and Lake to Dunbar and Bradley, from Haley to Fitchner, that there is a true change happening within the culture of the team. Even them cutting Mike Mitchell with one year left on his contract was big to me. Him being a team leader and trusted vet and losing his mind and trolling the Jax players an hour before the playoff game outside their locker room, that to me is another example of a player having a negative influence on this team. When that happened I knew they had to cut him, move on from him.

I think there is always this perception that a team only gets better by adding new high draft picks, or signing new expensive free agents but I believe the greatest impact is knowing when to subtract players, subtract coaches that are hurting your team. Addition by subtraction is a very real, tangible thing.

But but but... the Steelers never do anything to address the distractions and drama!

Bryant forced their hand with his tantrum last season during a playoff run. I wouldn't pat myself on the back too much for that one.

Come on R S,

Not only has the team done everything that I listed above, but they also resisted the easy temptation to resign Willie Gay, to resign Art Moats, to keep Robert Golden.

No, the Steelers had one of their more productive offseasons that I can ever remember. Not in terms of signing free agents or drafting players, but in subtracting players and coaches that they could have stuck with for one more year, thinking that they were on the cusp, that with a little luck it would all come together next year, blah, blah, blah.

No, those players and coaches were holding this team back and the Steelers recognized it and made moves to rectify it. To say otherwise makes no sense, give them their due.

I suppose this would be an interesting debate....but that begs the question of how we have guys confused and lost on a complicated defense, but then just give Bryant two routes to run because that's all he can handle.

Now Gruden loves him:

NAPA – Martavis Bryant took some heat from his head coach a few days back. Jon Gruden demanded more from the lightning quick receiver, saying he had to show more versatility and consistency in training camp.

Bryant's a big-play maker who was pretty quiet in recent weeks. He had an excellent showing in Wednesday's joint practice against the Detroit Lions, with several quality receptions showcasing speed and hands.

He barely got a finger on a floating ball his way, but controlled it long enough to secure the catch and a long day. He ran away from coverage later in the day, dusting coverage to reel in a long pass from Connor Cook.

Bryant needs more of those moments working in a competitive position group. Amari Cooper and Jordy Nelson will see action and Ryan Switzer has found a home in the slot.

The former Pittsburgh Steeler has been working primarily with the second team, though it's expected he'll have an important offensive role by the fall.

"Martavis is not a good talent, he's a great talent and we're going to continue to work him into our offense," Gruden said. "Today showed, I think, what he's capable of doing. … We have big plans for him."

Gruden's mild critique may have promoted better from Bryant, who looked good against the Lions Wednesday.

"You can definitely tell that he has a sense of urgency for him to pick things up and learn them," Derek Carr said. "He wants to do right, he really does. To see that in him, to see him continue, he always practices hard, that's never a question. He's going to practice hard. And usually that's the hardest part to get someone to practice hard, but he is. No problem practicing hard and going hard. In the film room and in the playbook is where he's really working hard and he's gotten a lot better."

At this point I'm impressed Bryant never ended up in JUCO purgatory.

Gruden has always used the press to motivate. It won't work with this guy. He's a fuck-up.

How can you not keep your shit together for even 1-2 years just so you can pick-up several million in SB from a new contract? He's obviously in the Allen Iverson camp.

I'm talking even mediocre #2/#3 receiver money, and he's obviously capable of much more.
