The NFL’s daily transaction report brings word that Pittsburgh has signed tackle Bryce Harris and tight end Ryan Malleck. The team also placed tackle Jerald Hawkins and tight end Jake McGee on injured reserve.

Harris played with the Saints and is an experienced swing tackle option in case Chuks isn't ready.

I don't hate Ryan Malleck. Is that damning with faint praise?

I doubt he's going to beat out Grimble.

Malleck couldn't even beat out McGee.... May have a shot. Not sure how severe the injury to McGee is or whether they'll IR him or medical settlement yet.

Edit:

Quote:
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed offensive lineman Jerald Hawkins and tight end Jake McGee on injured reserve after they were hurt during organized team activities last week. Both players are out for the 2018 season.

The Steelers announced the moves on Tuesday. The team said Hawkins and McGee were injured on May 30.

This is the second time in three years that Hawkins will not play a snap during the regular season due to injury. A fourth-round pick by the Steelers in 2016, Hawkins missed his rookie season due to a shoulder issue suffered during training camp. He appeared in five games in 2017 for the AFC North champions.

McGee spent 2017 on Pittsburgh’s practice squad.

The Steelers filled the roster spots vacated by Hawkins and McGee by signing offensive tackle Bryce Harris and tight end Ryan Malleck to one-year contracts. http://www.timesonline.com/sports/20180 ... sfeed=true

Harris got $790,000 and Malleck, $480,000 on one year deals. Steelers still 5M under the cap.

These are really just the minimums that you pay guys of these sort. Timmons being a what, 12 year vet, his minimum would be at least $1 million, that is the lowest total that he can receive per the CBA, etc.

Until some injuries happen, Timmons is on the outside looking in. Matthew Thomas probably is perceived as a young Timmons by the coaching staff, really like that we landed him as an UDFA, should have been at least a 5th round pick.
