man, I hope this kid makes the roster -- sounds like a very tough family situation -- he had a lot of growing up to do

could be a huge coup for us if he can reach his potential:

https://247sports.com/nfl/pittsburgh-st ... -118159967

He's also a decent sized guy who can run and jump:

6'3" 232 lbs
4.58 40
41.5 vert
131 broad

Some comparisons - his measurables stack up well:

Shaq Griffen
6'0" 227 lbs
4.38 40
117 broad

Malik Jefferson
6'2" 236 lbs
4.52 40
36 vert
125 broad

Skai Moore
6'2" 226 lbs
4.73 40 (slow!!!!)
36 vert
117 broad

Rashan Evans
6'3" 232 lbs
did not run 40
30 vert
116 broad

Vander Esch
6'4" 256 lbs
4.65 40
39.5 vert
124 broad

Josey Jewell
6'1" 234 lbs
4.82 40 (holy shit slow)
33 vert
117 broad

I think he could be that proverbial 'diamond in the rough'. Had some academic issues and couldn't follow the rules early on. All signs of immaturity. That can be coached up. Football intelligence? Can be coached up. Football instincts? Can't. I think Thomas has football instincts. I think Thomas is the poster child for that Height, Weight, Speed and Length guy with some really good athleticism. The short shuttle in 4.28s? On top of the vert and broad that was easily in the top performers range. Now if Thomas can just keep his nose to the grind and put it all together on the field. Definitely could be a UDFA Steal for the Steelers. Rooting for this guy and for all the chips falling in place for him. SBI.

Wow didn't know about this kid. Thanks for posting!

This would be a huge hit for us if it does pan out and it would seem the talent is there. As everyone dressing in B&G this year I hope he turns into a Hall of Famer

Thomas measured in at 6-foot-2 6/8. He weighed in at 232 pounds.

Thomas' hand measured at 8 7/8", his arm length is 33" and his wingspan is 79 1/8".

https://247sports.com/college/florida-s ... -115746630

His combine stats and breakdown according to Zierlein.

https://www.nfl.com/prospects/matthew-t ... ff05f442ff

His pro day stats.

http://draftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile ... genpos=OLB

So if you average his 40 time from the two results he is a 4.5s guy....

Averaging the short shuttle times he is 4.3s guy

Averaging the 10 split his 1.59s guy

Averaging the 3-cone he's still under 7s @ 6.94s...

Great summary

He’s got the best measurables of every LB in this draft

I know he can play

Let’s hope he gets his shit together mentally

On field and trust me I have looked everywhere

He can run
He can find the ball and make plays

He has talent

He does some things better than expected(Beat blocks find the ball in zone coverage)

This group of UDFAS could be very special

If Matthew Thomas can make the 53 which I hope he does - there will be pretty upstanding rookies that he can hang out with & keep him on the straight & narrow. What a talented exceptional athlete. This could be the draft & as mentioned above UDFA signings of a decade as it also includes the possible successor to Ben.
