Great pick here. I think he takes Grimble's spot as TE, but plays RB, FB, and TE as well as special teams. He can really catch out of the backfield.

From CBS:

Jaylen Samuels, TE, NC State
By CBS Sports Staff Apr 2, 2018 • 1 min read
Draft Prospect Outlook:
Multiple-role offensive skill-position player. Size a running back. Had H-back duties at NC State. Has run a variety of routes. Above-average but not spectacular elusiveness and burst into the second level. Very smart, balanced runner. Reliable hands, especially in traffic over the middle.
College Recap:
The "Swiss Army Knife" as he's known around the NC State program came to Raleigh, N.C. as an unknown commodity out of Mallard Creek in Charlotte. Samuels came in as a two-star hybrid fullback that was barely inside the Top 50 for his own state before transforming into a touchdown machine for the Wolfpack. Through his sophomore and junior seasons, JaySam totaled 29 touchdowns despite playing behind running back Matt Dayes most of his career.
Samuels became a goal line back during his senior campaign, rushing for 12 touchdowns on 5.2 yards per rush for the Pack. But don't get it twisted, Samuels is one of the best receivers to step foot on NC State campus too -- eclipsing the all-time receptions record for the program held by Jerricho Cotchery with 201 catches in his career. He also finished with one touchdown per every eight touches through his final three seasons in Raleigh. Samuels has been told by NFL scouts he will likely be slotted as a running back at the next level, but he's capable of being an ultimate utility player for any team in the future. - R. Cory Smith, PackPride

Samuels is a weapon.

He will never be a Tim Lester/Witman/Hoge type of fullback.

My view is

He is a halfback
He is a slot
He can play Hback/side car

He is a matchup nightmare and future NFL star...He does one thing really well...Play football

In 3 years teams will be like damn...How did he fall that far

Talented.
Football Player.

Pushes Frenchy off the roster.

Hoping new OC does not follow the Tomlin one back philosophy and can get this kid in game 5-10 snaps a game.

Does he take some snaps away from Rosie.
Possibly.

I think he is essentially the 3rd RB and part time FB plus core special tracker. Him in the backfield with Bell adds a new wrinkle to the offense.

Chill homeslice

Bostic? We’ve signed and drafted us some safeties and have some already on team.

Im sure a Scunge approved offensive piece to Bens offense.

Washinhton and Samuels seem like they follow in the JuJu mold of well rounded, tuff, versarile football players.

Hopefully we mix him in similarly to the way NE uses Burkhead.

He and Bell in the backfield, split one out and have a threat from both spots.

This lad is fun to watch. Might turn into a Verron Haynes type with a bit more versatility. Haynes was a 3rd down wizard.

4 in the box safeties. Not a single free safety.

Haynes was an amazing dancer during TV timeouts

Is this swiss army knife a gadget? Haley liked gadget players and this board went berserk.

But how the fuck can they call him a TE @ 6' ?

Never heard of him but if that's all he does, I love the pick.

I thought of Samuels as more of a WR,

But can't ignore 12 rushing TDs last season. Career 28 rushing TDs, 1107 rushing yds, 6.1 yds/carry. 1851 career receiving yds, 19 receiving TDs.

That is the best comparison. They are setting themselves up for life after Bell. Samuels is the receiving back, Connor is the pure runner, and they likely grab another one of each next year.

I do love the idea of Bell and Samuels in the same backfield. There are a lot of ways that you can horrify a defense with an alignment like that. Bell can become a slot in that scenario.

LOve love love love. One of the best RUNNERS in the draft. I think he could just be a RB and be great. Loads of talent.
