MOST LIKELY:
Pro Day dinner (Colbert tried to attend LVE dinner/pro day but couldn't because of weather), expected to be drafted before 2.60, position of need.

LB Leighton Vander Esch, Boise State
RB Darius Guice, LSU
S Jesse Bates, Wake Forest
LB Rashaan Evans, Alabama
S Ronnie Harrison, Alabama
QB Lamar Jackson, Louisville
QB Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State
WR James Washington, Oklahoma State
TE Mike Gesicki, Penn State
EDGE Sam Hubbard, Ohio State
CB Denzel Ward, Ohio State
NT Da’Ron Payne, Alabama

A REAL POSSIBILITY:
Attended pro day. May have had unreported dinner. Either a need fit or expected 1st/early 2nd rounder.

LB/EDGE Lorenzo Carter, Georgia
RB Sony Michel, Georgia
LB Arden Key, LSU
CB Donte Jackson, LSU
C Billy Price, Ohio State
CB Jaire Alexander, Louisville
RB Nick Chubb, Georgia
CB Tony Brown, Alabama

UNLIKELY BUT CAN'T BE RULED OUT:
Attended pro day or (Reid) came out to say not attending pro day was not a sign to read into. Either not a position of need or not expected to be drafted before 2.60.

DL Tim Settle, Virginia Tech
C J.C. Hassenauer, Alabama
S Tremaine Edmunds, Virginia Tech
S Justin Reid, Stanford
EDGE Duke Ejiofor, Wake Forest
WR Marcel Ateman, Oklahoma State
S Marcus Allen, Penn State
LB Jerome Baker, Ohio State
S Tre Flowers, Oklahoma State

Having a list of nearly 30 possibilities ranked into groups of high/medium/low probability stretches the definition of the words "narrow down" beyond all meaning, B2B. 8-)

Let's not forget that many will go before 28.

Also, it's really the 12 in the first list that are most likely. The next 8 are possibilities that can't be discounted, if the board falls a certain way. If I had to bet, though, I'd take that first list of 12 and give you the field.

I also think these guys are a stretch:

WR James Washington, Oklahoma State
TE Mike Gesicki, Penn State
EDGE Sam Hubbard, Ohio State
CB Denzel Ward, Ohio State

So, that leaves 8, plus the remote possibility that some outlier at a position of need falls (like Edmunds, Roquan, Minkah, maybe Derwin)

I look at that and I see this order:

Barkley
Edmunds
Minkah
Alexander
LVE
Guice
--------
Bates
Evans
Harrison
Rudolph
Carter
Michel
Key
Reid
Jackson
Chubb

GREAT list B2B.

So, LVE is going to be gone.
That will leave us with these realistic options at 1.28 IMO.

Reid
Bates
Evans
Harrison
Payne

I just don't see QB or RB going in the 1st for us. I think you can scratch out Harrison since we already have a guy very similar to him in Davis.
Payne will most likely be gone but I'll keep him in the mix.
I'm apt to going with one of the safety's. I like Bates center-field skill-set but Reid can do most anything you need in a S.
He is the guy I'm leaning towards in rd 1.

We have to get a good ILB that can cover at least fairly. I'm looking at Leonard, Nwosu, Avary, Burks in rd 2-3.

They're not picking Justin Reid at 1.28, so you can let that one go.

Burks is strictly a STs guy... think L.J. Fort, or maybe Sylvester Stevenson.

Avery can't play well in space... he's an edge guy in the NFL, and probably pretty good at that.

I really hope L. Carter is in play at 1.28.

I think he is... but other guys would have to be gone. Carter is definitely no lock to be gone before 2.60.

EDIT: I just went to the 4 best rankings that I know of: nfl draft scout, Rang, Brugler, & Zierlein. The average ranking for him is(40+86+47+49)/4= 55.5

I think you can take Guice off your list. That's a smokescreen. We can debate and whine about pulling Bell's tag, but that's not how PIT operates. And so they arent taking RB in R1.

However, they DO draft for next year... meaning RB, WR, OG, & OLB are in play.

Not in the final 2-3 years of your HOF QB's career

They do what they do in the draft, more than in any aspect of operations.

Personally? I think QB is stupid. I would take an outlier RB, because ultimately that would help the QB some int the short term and a lot in 2019-20. Same with WR. OG would be only for an outrageously good prospect that could step in and be a longterm starter and upgrade.

There is no way Arden Key is going in the first two days let alone the first round.

I don’t get the supposed hype for him either.

I also think the Steelers will run to the podium if Rashaan Evans is available at 28.

Going by your theory: My guess
1. Safety Bates
2. ILB. Leonard
3.. WR. Ateman

Steelers will run to the podium in the first round no matter who the pic is.

There’s a lot I’m sure they will like though. His coverage needs work and that will take time, but they need a sideline-to-sideline and pass rush replacement for Shazier, both of which he provides. To me, he’s the favorite for 28 if he’s there, even over LVE. But I think LVE has a greater chance of being gone before 28 than Evans.

Here is my list

LB Leighton Vander Esch, Boise State 20% chance
They’ve shown him a ton of interest, position of need, and likely to be available

LB Rashaan Evans Alabama 15% chance
Similar to Vander Esch, except not quite as much interest shown.

S Ronnie Harrison Alabama 15% chance
They need a safety and have shown interest. He may be the best DB available

S Justin Reid Stanford 15% chance
A ton of interest shown, won’t make it to their second pick. I could see it.

QB Lamar Jackson, Louisville 7.5%
Colbert has personally gone to Louisville games 3 years in a row. I think this is a very real possibility

QB Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State 7.5%
Colbert and Tomlin have shown a ton on interest. Tomlin thinking about his long term future might want to have his next QB on the roster now. Call it job stability.

RB Darius Guice, LSU 5% chance
Top flight bell cow back. Makes Bell expendable.

CB Jaire Alexander, Louisville 5%
Again, the team has scouted the shit out of Louisville recently. I think Alexander is long gone, but if he falls they pounce.

Other 10%
Ziggy Hood, Rashard Mendenhall, Artie Burns. Sometimes they pick a player out of left field they didn’t show much interest in. Rarely, but it happens.

I am committed to smashing something if it's Evans

They had dinner with Artie Burns, IIRC. Tombert was at his pro day, too.

JANE, YOU IGNORANT SLUT.

My counter point:

SP wrote:

LONG GONE BEFORE 28. TOP 20 PICK.

LB Rashaan Evans Alabama 15% chance
Similar to Vander Esch, except not quite as much interest shown.

JARVIS JONES 2.0. WOULD THEY DO THAT TO THEMSELVES AGAIN?

S Ronnie Harrison Alabama 15% chance
They need a safety and have shown interest. He may be the best DB available

SAFE CHOICE BUT HE'S NOT AS GOOD AS MORGAN BURNETT AND PROBABLY NOT GOING TO BE A FS, SO SEAN DAVIS IS STILL THE WEAKEST LINK ON THE DEFENSE.

S Justin Reid Stanford 15% chance
A ton of interest shown, won’t make it to their second pick. I could see it.

EXTREMELY DOUBTFUL. THEY SHOWED SO MUCH MORE INTEREST IN JESSE BATES, AND BATES FITS THEIR NEEDS MUCH BETTER. REID REMINDS ME A LOT OF DAVIS/MITCHELL, IN TERMS OF HITTING VS TACKLING, BRAIN FARTS, POOR ANGLES, ETC

QB Lamar Jackson, Louisville 7.5%
Colbert has personally gone to Louisville games 3 years in a row. I think this is a very real possibility

IF THEY TAKE A QB (STUPID) IT WOULDN'T SURPRISE ME IF IT WAS ONE OF THESE TWO THEY SEEM TO GENUINELY LIKE.

QB Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State 7.5%
Colbert and Tomlin have shown a ton on interest. Tomlin thinking about his long term future might want to have his next QB on the roster now. Call it job stability.

RB Darius Guice, LSU 5% chance
Top flight bell cow back. Makes Bell expendable.

I THINK THIS ONE IS A MUCH HIGHER LIKELIHOOD... THEY HAD DINNER WITH HIM AND BELL IS AS GOOD AS GONE AFTER 2018. DRAFTING FOR NEXT YEAR IS WHAT GOOD FRANCHISES DO.

CB Jaire Alexander, Louisville 5%
Again, the team has scouted the shit out of Louisville recently. I think Alexander is long gone, but if he falls they pounce.

AGREE WITH THIS WHOLEHEARTEDLY

Other 10%
Ziggy Hood, Rashard Mendenhall, Artie Burns. Sometimes they pick a player out of left field they didn’t show much interest in. Rarely, but it happens.

ZIGGY IS THE ONLY ONE IN A REALLY LONG TIME THAT DIDN'T GET AT LEAST A PRO DAY VISIT FROM TOMBERT, IF NOT A PRO DAY VISIT AND PRIVATE DINNER.

TO ME, BATES IS THE ARTIE BURNS PICK... THE ONE NO ONE EXPECTED IN ROUND 1 BUT THE STEELERS PICKED ANYWAY. BEST FIT AT A POSITION OF EXTREME NEED.
