Miami to release Timmons. Stopgap measure but is his head still in the game?

Let’s play “Spin The Aviators”...

Timmons doesn't have anything left.

Got murdered in the run game.

Gotta get him on the cheap.

Even at "nothing left", he's already 100x better than Spence.

Draft an ILB high, let Timmons and VW mentor him and use Timmons in spot duty.

Zero doubt he'll make a positive impact. Dolphins fans loved him.

I'm not saying this to bash Tomlin, I'm saying it to bash Labs idiotic article.

If Tomlin had the record he has now with string of 2nd tier QBs, no one with a brain would not be giving Tomlin big time applause. He gets skewered because he has / has had Ben.

Until the defense gets fixed, the team is going nowhere.

Zero doubt in my mind that this is what happens. 2 year cheap deal and draft an ILB high, round 1 or 2. Vince Williams is a FA next year.

Reminds me of when Foote left and came back.

The question isn't whether Timmons is better than Spence. That is a given. Not even close.

The question is whether there is a FA out there that is better than Timmons at a similar or slightly higher price. I think there is.

I agree with you, but history says they will gravitate toward their former players. Timmons will be a starter here Week 1.

My guess is that Timmons, if given the option, would come back here and play for not too much and little to no guarantee $. He would help some with the run D and add much needed talent at depth, if that was his role. Would easily be at least our second best available ILB in the room today.

Problem with this logic is the ability to cover - not support the run - determines which LBer plays.....just saw that this year with Harrison.

But his coverage ability will still be better than most in the room now. I'm not saying he's the main answer, but I think he could be a very solid role player, something we barely have now. Again, playing for probably less and 2 mil per, almost vet minimum. They're not going to spend $7-8 mil per for a top-tier FA ILB, imo.

I don't disagree with any of that (though I agree with other posters better options are probably out there). I think it's a 100% certainty they sign him. And I think it's better than 50/50 he's starting Wk 1, unfortunately.

At he least next seasons postseason failure might already have its excuse.

But but but we just didn’t have a LB that could cover....

Which is why I see Timmons as PART of the ILB solution (a cheap one at that). I think we need at least two new parts at the position. Ultimately, he's your #3-4 guy with some decent versatility.

They will most likely sign Timmons and draft a guy.

And unless the drafted guy is an immediate hit Timmons is your starter.

Yeah as really he is winding down his career. As sometimes less is more. And he could cover when needed.

The dude is 31 for goodness sake. He was 20 when drafted. He is about the same age as Sean Lee.

Bring him in and see what he has left. It's not like he is 39 like Harrison. :o

I agree Baltostiller. People seem to have this irrational hatred of Timmons, I just don't get it. He turns 32 in May, he always kept himself in great shape, never missed any time or games. He has way more tread on his tires than some of the these other ILBs that people are considering. Poz from Jacksonville, isn't he 34? Derrick Johnson from KC, won't he turn 36 this year? I mean come on people you are not thinking clearly.

You use Timmons age against him and then will want to sign a free agent vet who is 2, 4 years older than Timmons? Even Vince Williams will turn 29 at the end of this year, so he isn't even that much younger than Timmons.

I can see him coming back, signing a one or two year vet minimum deal and helping the situation dramatically. He isn't a replacement for Shazier but part of the solution to bring stability and respectability back. Need a veteran to help steady the ship for that position.

Nothing irrational about the thruth. Call it hate if you like Scunge. Not you or anyone else can convince me Timmons is worth even the vet minimum. The guy is washed up. Has Been Retreads Never, Ever Pan out Well. Ask Cam Thomas. Lance Moore. Brice McCain.

I’d have to agree, 77. The thing I fear is that they aren’t getting Timmons at vet min...4 1/2- 5 mil per is more like it...

Dudes worth a couple mil mein homies... In that price range he delivers more bang to teh Stillers than the FA competition by far. It'd be crazy not to sign him.

Well, that's not really a good comparison with never-were's. Timmons is still relatively young. James Harrison, Larry Foote and William Gay all came back and made significant contributions for multiple years.

And I think we could expect similar from Timmons. However, I would agree given Vince Williams and Dud Dupree that we need better than Timmons.
