I heard a rumor on Madden's show that there has been some talk about cutting Ramon Foster and replacing him with BJ Finney to save money in order to sign Bell or whatever they are going to do.

I don't mind it.

Thoughts? Discuss-

chemistry is uber-important for an OL.....but when you have a FA that is starter-caliber like Hubbard, it's one of those moves you make to save money.

Was it SEA that was so loaded on defense there for a while that they were letting good players walk and next man up was just as good?

And that was a great formula before the cap started spiking every year. Draft BPA, regardless of depth, and then you could use the money you saved to fill in gaps in FA. Like you really can't expect to grab the top WR in the draft, cut AB and use that money elsewhere to improve your team.

That aside, Foster isn't terribly expensive ($3.5m, $900k dead cap), and they'd need to sign a quality backup to replace the depth Finney now provides. Foster wasn't great last year, but he wasn't a liability either. And at the end of the day this would only save something like $1 or 2 million.

Lol, yeah, if they cut him it won't be about money. Finney needs to be starting somewhere on the iol.

meh a non story. Foster has seemed to be more injury prone as he's aged. Finney will be starting there at some point this season, just like last season. I believe this is Foster's last in the B&G. Great teammate and leader. Players union dog and all that. All good things do come to an end. Shifting gears...

Just realize that you're cutting one of the very few outspoken team leaders that garners respect in the locker room. And he's a good player, to boot.

You keep him one more year. Can’t assume health across the line. Not with our history.

They will all play. Sort it out next year if possible.

He's only under contract for one more season, it would be foolish to cut him when he costs little and will not free up enough significant money to sign Bell long term. Like B2B said, Foster is a team leader and is also the Steelers player representative to the NFL & NFLPA. His play was better last year than people give him credit for....he is far from the reason that the team didn't live up to potential.

Sounds penny wise and dollar foolish to me.

Domino effect on depth could ruin a run. Right now, any 3 iol go down, I'm comfortable with finney coming in.

Nobody cares about that shit until it bites them in the ass. Oh wait. Isn't discipline supposedly a problem?

Cutting Ramon Foster makes no sense. If you lose Hubbard to free agency and then cut Ramon Foster, you are now down not just one but two former starters from last season. Those two players were not just passable starters but very good and you want to replace them with who exactly? BJ Finney, who has had injury problems himself and Matt Feiler and Jerald Hawkins? Hawkins also missed plenty of time his rookie year with injury. That just doesn't seem to be the smartest thing to do if you want to win a Super Bowl, meaning to let Foster go and not try and keep Hubbard and go with all of these younger unproven talent.

We would only save $2.1 million if we cut Foster. Not enough money to even consider. If he were a little used backup making that much yeah, you would cut and move on, but not for a starter who plays at a high level, has great respect from the players and coaches and is making so little to begin with.

This idea along with the one reported by La Canfora of the Steelers looking to cut Haden, and maybe cut Vance McDonald are all just bullshit.

I hear they're tryin to clear cap space to sign a few players for a 4-3 D, but like has been said, Foster doesn't net ya much.

The rumor I heard about Foster was that he swallowed an entire steel drum barrel.

See if he can play defense. God knows we have an entire squad that hasn't a clue how to do it.

Madden was the first local media figure to mention Bell missing drug tests.

It was actually Willie Colon (pictured here) that Foster swallowed:

I enjoy Madden. He is wired into the NHL and he talks Penguins throughout the year (by far my favorite sport, favorite team and the best team in Pittsburgh):

He also thinks Art2 is full of shit and that the Pirates aren’t even worth the time to discuss- pretty much lines up with my thoughts.

Best team in Pittsburgh a few years ago? Seems like something you would say.
