No way Whitehead makes $8M per. I'd be shocked... and I like the guy.

list of ILBs making $8M: Luke Kuechly, Bobby Wagner, Alec Ogletree, Mark Barron, Brian Cushing, Brandon Marshall.

You just got done saying..."he was a top 5-6 ILB in the NFL last year", but now you think it's crazy to assume he'll get paid like one. Burfict, Sean Lee and Telvin Smith make a buttload too.

One year and lots of flaws. He's a stopgap starter until proven otherwise.

Barron and Alec Ogletree were DC Wade Phillips' inside linebackers this past season, forming an undersized, but athletic, duo on the interior. The Rams were 22nd in run-defense DVOA and 28th in rush yards allowed, it's possible a change is made there. Barron carries a $10 million cap number for 2018, and the Rams can save $7 million by cutting him. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/7497/mark-barron
Wouldn't this be interesting?

Two terrible, overpaid players-- one of whom is playing out of position because he couldn't cut it as a safety-- is one reason the Rams were so bad vs the run.

You obviously don't believe Barron is a prospect for the Steelers SS/ILB role? Davis over the top at FS? I know Barron would want $$ and think he's out of their league financially, Wow..., ok.

I would take Barron as a dime LB... but that's a lot of money for that role. I don't buy Barron as a starting 3-4 ILB, though. You think that's crazy?

Nope. I think he's best suited in a 4-3. I agree about the money it would likely take. Wishful thinking I guess.

They could always structure the deal in a way that they work around the one time pill of the $8.7M they carry for Shazier this year. Many of these large deals are $10M a year but with a $2M initial cap hit because of the bonus money.

Not the Steelers. They always pay more because they are stingy with the signing bonus (why is a mystery, considering they often restructure guys the following year, anyway).

So if you're talking a 5yr deal with a $25M SB, right there is $5M in prorated cap a year. Then the min base salary to go with it is @ $1M. So hard to get much lower than $6M, and that's with like a $15M cap hit the following year.

This is about ILB, but I see Marcus Peters could be on the market....I'm sure he'd be a model citizen at Club Dumblin.

If I knew in advance that Peters would masturbate onto the American flag live on facebook during a postgame locker room speech, I would still consider doing the deal.

I saw that yesterday. I think it was florio who pinned what if. If [huge if] the chefs decide to trade Peters it won't be cheap. They traded Smiff to skins and got in return an 18 3rd RND pick and Kendall Fuller. The speculation was Fuller in the slot after picking up David Amerson from the Raiders to play on the outside. I don't know why they would want to trade Peters unless he has issue with staff? If I'm kansashitty I keep Peters. Tough secondary IMHO.

Bears released ILB Jerrell Freeman. I know he has past PED problems and will miss the first two games this coming year, but when healthy, he's been very good in both run and pass. My guess is he could be had for a cheap, one year prove it deal. He was very, very good in '15 and '16 (IR'ed in '17). Even if he's depth, he's so, so much better than what we have now (even at 31).

I say kick the tires on this overachieving, very hard working, hi IQ player, before he's scooped up.

We can’t afford him, but remove money from the equation. Why would you be against signing him?

I wanted hm so badly coming out of Washington.

Draft night he went one or two picks before us.

No Thanks. Old retreads never pan out well.

Exactly foster. Peters upon signing that contract becomes your best corner on the team and upgrades your secondary before even stepping foot on the field.

Simple, he was an ass hat at Washington got kicked out, and for KC to be looking to dump him he is continuing to be an ass hat.

That’s the last thing you need in a Steelers locker room, me thinks they already have to many.

While I generally agree with that statement, it was only about a year or so ago Freeman graded out as one of the top coverage ILB in the league and a top run supporter as well. I say kick the tires and do some digging on this one.

Peters would fit in just fine with Tomlin running Club Asshat

Peters apparently is an excellent ping pong player

Could help w locker room unity if they bring it back
