I like AJ starting the first game of this series. Agree, it's going to be a tough one, but as you said, most of our first 1/3 plus of the season has been this way, with very few exceptions. I think it bodes well that we have held our own through most of these (the O's series pretty much the only recent exception to that). I'd love to take this series though, and a win in the first game will be huge. Really looking to AJ to set the tone. Will struggle to win Game 2 behind Lincoln (though since he's announced as the starter, I'm pulling for him to have a huge game, maybe we can sneak one of those where the pitcher has sucked, but will look great inexplicably like so often seems to happen to us).
AJ has been more than huge. On the mound, his performances and stats speak for themselves, but what he brings to the clubhouse, mentoring the young guys, and taking on that leadership role, has been beyond what anyone could have anticipated, and has been a tremendous factor, intangible though it may be, to us being where we are now--contending (yes, contending!), 2 games out and 5 games over .500 with the town and fanbase buzzing about the Buccos.

Tough test indeed with each pitcher.
Have a good feeling about the first game. Not so much the other two.

Gotta bad feeling about this series. The Twins and the Indians suck. This will be a great test. I hope the bats can pass it. I'm not worried about the pitching except for Lincoln.

We need to win AJ's start tonight because I don't like our chances in the next two.
And is it just my imagination, or do the Pirates always seem to draw the opposition's best pitchers.?

Certainly seems to be the case, Jeems.

And is it just my imagination, or do the Pirates always seem to draw the opposition's best pitchers.? Well, the Buccos do have a tendency to make the oppositions worse pitcher look like their best!

This is a real test. Really good team that is underachieving, three really good pitchers. Measuring stick type of series. Underachieving yes...but also "getting healthy". Losing Austin Jackson and Fister for an extended period really hurt. Looking forward to tonight's match-up...Burnett was tough in Detroit last series. Fister looked awesome in his first start back. Could be low scoring.

Fister is far from the Tigers worst pitcher. In fact, he is #2 behind Verlander. 1-3 with a 2.68 ERA. He's been hurt and when he's actually pitched, the Tigers do not score him any runs at all. Porcello is easily the worst starter.
