Overview: Beyond RG3 and Luck, perhaps no first-round pick represented a better match of player and team than David DeCastro to the Steelers. A plug-and-play starter, DeCastro will shore up a weak spot on Pittsburgh's line. And the Steelers have more options than they've had in awhile. Colon could kick to left guard if second-rounder Adams proves pro ready, with Gilbert staying at right tackle, his 2011 position. Pouncey has made the Pro Bowl in each of his first two years, earning All-Pro honors in the last. Seemingly an annual weakness, Pittsburgh's offensive line could suddenly become a 2012 strength. this is the first season Tomlin gets to put a HUGE stamp on this team. With the retirement of quite a few of "Cowher's guys", and the pending retirement of Casey Hampton (due to injury - this is an assumption of mine), this might be the first season that the majority of starters are all Tomlin guys. figure: Adams, DeCastro, Pouncey, Legs/Foster, Gilbert, Colon = only Colon is a Cowher guy, so that's at least 4/5 = Tomlin whatever RB is on the field = 1 Tomlin whatever WR is on the field = 3 Tomlin Heath Miller, Ben = 2 Cowher guys so we're looking at at LEAST 8/11 starters on offense being Tomlin guys defense DL at least 2/3 are Tomlin guys with Snack out LB = 3/4 Tomlin guys until Foote moves on DB = 1/4 = Tomlin guys so that's 6/11 14/22 starters = Tomlin's guys the thought of having an offensive line stacked with talent almost frightens me interesting days ahead!  _________________

It's hard to believe we won SB 43 with Hartwig that POS OL...can't believe Ben survived Sean Mahan and Jonathan Scott.

Interesting! I rather like the OLine materializing like.... Adams LT, DeCastro LG, Pouncey OC, Foster/Colon RG, Gilbert RT as my starting 5. Top reserves... Ryan Lee OC/OG, Trai Essex OG/OT, Kelvin Beachum OG, Trevis Turner OT. Foster and Colon are the only difficult decision for me. If/when Foster locks himself into the RG position what becomes of the expensive Colon? IMO Gilbert is a better prospect at RT with more potential in his pinky than injury prone Colon has throughout his whole body. Plus Gilbert has the ability to play the left side as well where Colon is RT only. Certainly an interesting debate going forward. The only advantage Colon has over Gilbert at this point IMO is experience. IMO Colon has reached his full potential is on the down side of his career at RT. Could he slide inside to OG? Who knows. I like Foster at RG. DeCastro is certain to lock up one of the OG positions. They ranked Ravens 9th....please. Mckinnie and Oher after Scott saw the bench were worst tackle pairing in AFC North. They lose Grubbs and Birk is ancient...yeh rotoworld. 11th for Steelrs is OTP as well, agree we added nice potential but potential needs to produce before oline improves.

The overall team is horrible, but Brownies have a minimum top 10 line. I realise it's projection based, but good God...Pack @ #1?

Even if others don't concur, 2 division rivals have better lines according to this Silva guy. So..assuming we give Cleveland props...are we the worst OL in the division? We are depending on a standout rookie - but a rookie nonetheless. We may potentially play two rookies....and a guy fresh off 2 major injuries and who is changing to a new position. I'm an optimist...but those are serious hurdles...too serious to be ranked 11th in 2012. In 2013, if everything works out, 11th might be too LOW. But for this year...

For me I hope the OLine works out like: Adams LT, Colon LG, Pouncey OC, DeCastro RG, Gilbert RT. Backup OLinemen: Essex, Foster, Beachum and Legursky with Lee on the PS. Eventually Beachum can start at LG after Colon's contract ends, possibly even before. Beachum, certainly has the work ethic and smarts to go along with the athleticism. Eventually when this young man translates these highly valued talents to the field (in the NFL) I think he has the potential to be a solid above average OLineman in the NFL. This young man very well could be our next LG for a long time. IMO Quote: Kelvin Beachum OT 6'3 306 Southern Methodist. Scouting Report A thick, wide bodied player with a lot of girth and muscle through his lower half. Possesses a thick set of legs/base and possesses natural anchor strength on contact. Plays left tackle for SMU, but is a bit short for tackle by NFL standards and looks a bit short in the arms as well. However, exhibits the ability to bend and sit into his stance. Also, as a senior has done a much better job sitting into his base on his kick-slide and maintaining his balance better into contact and when asked to mirror. Showcases good foot quickness and lateral agility with solid range toward the corner as well. Gets a bit overextended into his punch, but settles his feet quickly, exhibits good hand placement and can stick through contact and anchor once he gets his hands on defenders. Plays from a two point stance consistently and has a tendency to get a bit upright off the football into contact in the run game. However, displays a "plus" initial burst off the snap. Gets into defenders quickly, displays an explosive power/burst into contact and despite playing a bit high can create a bit of a push. Will need to learn to play from a three-point stance and with better leverage inside in the NFL, but the burst/power are definitely there. Exhibits natural coordination through contact and can get around blocks and seal. However, the most impressive element of his game is for his size is his ability to get out in front of runs into the second level and reach on contact. Showcases impressive range and athleticism for his size as well. Displays natural coordination into contact and settles his feet well and seals at the second level. Impression: Possesses the size/power to win as an in-line guy and the athleticism to pull in power situations and get out into the second level as well.
