Quote: BillinSF: Why have you "soured a little bit on Cordy Glenn"?
Ed Bouchette: Because I heard they did not have him ranked as high as I thought they might. Quote: Copesetic: Hey Bouchette. Any chance the Steelers can get Melvin Ingram?
Ed Bouchette: They love him but they won't get him if they stay at No. 24.
Quote: Andy: Is Mike Adams off the Steelers board?
Ed Bouchette: Not by any stretch. I've heard good things about Adams and how he reacted to his reported positive marijuana test. He went to counseling, etc. Marvel Smith tested in college too. I don't think it will affect Adams on draft day.

Well now.......
I know the grass is no big deal, but I'm still not sure after the Tone incident.

Not a shock they didn't buy into Cordy Glenn hype. And they probably be ecstatic if Adams there in R2

I can only evaluate Adams on what I've seen him do on the field, and that tells me he has potential to be a top flight LT in the NFL worthy of a mid 1st round pick. I have no idea what he is like off the field, how motivated he is, and if he is a pot head or not. If the Steelers draft him in round 1, I could only trust they did the background info and it checked out ok. I think some team will still take him late in round 1, probably not the Steelers though.

The Combine is an interview process that you know most of the questions going in. You know you will be asked to jump and run and bench press. You know you will be given the wonderlik test and have to piss in a cup. If you do not have the work ethic and the mental stamina to prepare for ALL the tests then it should cost. IMHO, Adams is a pothead that does not really care about football. If you can not stop toking for 3 months or get something to cover it up before the test YOU KNOW IS COMING, you do not care.

The flip side of that is if you know you have skills, well, your payday is out there and you are only going to party like your Sr year of college once, most likely... So who gives a crap?
Not everyone is completely mature at age 21 or 22 and I'm not even sure if that's desirable.
I remember my first "real" job offer... I verbally accepted and was so stoked I went and drank and smoked a ton of pot that very night. Imagine my surprise the next day when my acceptance sheet said I had to pass a drug screen. Which I should have known. You have never seen anyone so interested in their job and just too busy to schedule that drug screen for my first 3 weeks on the job...
If Adams is a pothead like Marvel Smith, then that's the kind of pothead I definitely want on my team.

I will say there is a difference between should have known and know for a fact beyond a doubt because you have an agent telling you. If they get him in the 2nd it is a acceptable risk but barely. I think the flip side, as you put it, shows what he will be like as a pro. If it were your money you were spending on a person you were hiring, would you like them to give a crap about the job or not? If you do not give a crap do you think you will work hard to improve or just cruse along?
