I thought before the season that this team would be the worst hitting team in the majors.....but wow - after 10 games they are batting .188 as a TEAM!
The problem?......this is a trend.
In 2011, the team batted .244 as a team.
In 2010, the team batted .242 as a team.
In 2009, the team batted .252 as a team - not sure what it was after Freddy Sanchez got traded.
Get used to it - the baseball talent is becoming pitching heavy in the lower levels, meaning its harder and harder to find good young hitters in baseball.....yet NH has been drafting pitching - that needs to end this draft! They have to go heavy bats and fuck the fielding - anybody who can hit - sign em up.
Unfortunately its going to take a few massive free agent signings (yes ha ha funny) and some prospects to come through to see this turn around.
I am changing my mind about Pedro - I think they should play Pedro at 3B and leave him alone - I dont care if he strikes out 300 times - they need to see if he can come out of this - no more platooning - let the guy play - and move him up in the order - they are going to suck anyways - we have nothing to lose.

Yep, at this point sink or swim. Platooning a first-round draft choice is fucking ludicrous.

I agree with that. They won't though. They want to win enough games to sell tickets, at least.
But it's either/or in my opinion. Play him every day and let him work it out, or send him down for the rest of the year and let him get his head together, as Sham suggested before we came north. I go with either choice, but no pussy-footing around. I am not sure if that just doesn't make it worse.
What he represents for this club, potentially, is huge. We do need to see if he can do it, or if he's a bust, and then proceed from there.

If they play Alvarez everyday, he WILL strike out 300 times! I understand what you're saying though, play him and see what happens. Then at the end of the season, when he's batting .160 with 3 home runs and 300+ Ks, they can cut their loses and move on. What a fuckin' waste of a 1st round pick and 6 million dollars!

Yeah, but the thing of it is, MeanJoe, they're not winning with him out of the lineup. Nothing to lose at this point IMO.

Bingo, Jack. They lose nothing by playing him, and they gain insight into what they have here with this number one draft pick. Need to know, and probably better sooner than later.
I just don't want to see them trade him for peanuts and he goes all Jose Bautista on us.
