i might be wrong, but i think the majority pittsburgh fans wear their teams' stuff on the day they're playing, not just the day after they win.

And even the day after they lose - I had my Pens gear on today, and was waiting for some of the local Bruins bandwagoners to make a comment. No takers though.

during the cup runs, they played harder. When they cleared the puck there was always a black jersey down fighting for the puck. Even when they just dumped it into the zone. Now, they're getting outskated to the puck. Is it speed or heart?

I've heard this group being compared to the Capitals over the past couple years : tons of offense, but no defensive structure and the wrong disposition whenever they go into the corners.

We got guys with heart, they proved it last season doing what they did in the face of so many man games lost to injury. I'd say it's more of a mentality issue. IMHO they believe the wins should just come to them because of the talent level with Sid and Geno back in the lineup and they've got to re-learn that it takes every bit as much grit and scraping that it took last year. The addition of Sid and Geno should simply be helping to lift them over the top with regard to winning a series, not doing it entirely on the merit of their presence alone. Of course, i'm not in the locker room but that's the way it feels. I don't believe this team is devoid of the heart required to go the distance.

"mentality" is just another word for "heart" -- let's not get too scemantical here

But dude this team has displayed tons of heart time and again from last year through this year. We know they're capable of it. To me sloppy and undisciplined play isn't indicative of a lack of heart, it's indicative of a lack of focus and mental laziness. Maybe you'd call all of that one and the same but I think it's something different. There was nothing timid about the way they were playing last night. It was just sloppy, some of the sloppiest and undisciplined hockey i've seen in some time from a playoff team. Lovejoy looked like a beer leaguer who won a radio contest prize of getting to play defense in an NHL game last night. He was that bad. And he wasn't the only one stinking up the joint. We know these guys are capable of better.

I know we hate the Caps, but I watched them start to finish today against the Bruins, and saw the last half of their game on Thursday. I was rooting for 'em today....solely due to the assholes in the Boston media who constantly diss on the Penguins. Fuck them!! Anyway....too bad our D couldn't be as disciplined, as solid, as either one of those teams.

When did Earth's axis shift and #Caps became that much better than #Pens defensively? #Bruins = #Flyers up front.

HEART

team lost guerin, talbot, gill and several others who had championship caliber mentality -- maybe not the best numbers, but that's not all you need to win the stanley cup

This. We have not been the same playoff hockey team without a grinder in front of the net, like Roberts or Guerin. We REALLY miss that kind of tough player.

Another thing...outside of Dupuis, not many other wingers on this team play D worth a shit. Where the fuck is the unbelievable back-checking we saw in our two cup runs? We got rid of all the wingers who were willing to do the small stuff to win. Now, its all zig-zag passes, east to west. Cannot win that way

One more bitch about Bylsma's coaching and then I'll shut up about it. After the quick and successful PPG with Sid off the first unit, we get another opportunity. I mentionded this in my pre series analysis that Dan has to avoid the "coaches crack" that is Crosby. What happens but he throws Sid out there with Geno and there's the shorty in our net. I swear Byslma can't get out of his own way sometimes and continues to trip over his own dick...
