the guy just rubs me the wrong way good story about Trevor Bauer at foxsports, and Bob takes the chance to change the headline to make it seem like a negative comparison to Gerritt Cole -- the guy just can't help himself: This is the actual story headline: Trevor Bauer: Peculiarity and potentialHere is Smizik's negative headline: Bauer MLB-ready; Cole in minorshttp://communityvoices.sites.post-gazet ... -in-minors

It's a fair, if flawed, criticism.
I'm as optimistic as can be. But the team has seen a lot of bad luck and bad organizational moves in the past 20 years.

but come on mean joe, can you possibly launch any criticism at the pirates brass for choosing Cole as the overall number 1? He was clearly "the guy" in this draft, and if they had taken Bauer instead, I'm sure Smizik would've been the first critic claiming that the bucs didn't want to "pay the freight" for a legit overall number 1 pick.
With smizik, I feel the wind blows only one way, all the time. When he changes headlines like this to suit his bias, it never surprises me.

Smizik is a dipshit. MLB ready does not mean someone is a better prospect. That's why they have the minors. The Pirates don't need an MLB ready pitcher. They need the best pitcher.
Fuck, Mike Leake never pitched in the minors before making the Reds rotation, that doesn't mean he is better than Gerrit Cole.

I'm certainly no Smizik fan, but I won't criticize anyone for negativity regarding the Pittsburgh Pirates. Nineteen years of ass stench wears on you!

But Cole was not a slam dunk choice over Trevor Bauer. Lots of baseball people thought Bauer was a better talent. I was saying on this board last year I thought Bauer was the best collegiate pitching prospect in the draft. I think Cole is going to be a good pitcher but I think Trevor Bauer is going to be special.

I would've had no problem picking bauer over Cole, but if that had happened, douchebag smizik would have had a headline such as "Pirates take cheaper option with first pick" or some type of bullshit like that. Whatever the pirates do, he criticizes. Granted, they're the worst franchise in sports right now, but i think they have been making good moves for the past 2-3 years, since mcclatchy gave up full control. But smizik won't give any credit for anything they do. Even today's blog, he criticizes the solid minor league talent for the pirates by saying this is because theyve had so many high picks. You just cant win with that douchebag. The pirates have had top picks for 20 years but the minors has never been as good as it is right now, but he wont say that

Actually I've seen him blow both ways, Steel. He's looking for blog hits, always good to stir the shit to do that, just pretty much like anyone else who is into the same type of blogging.
I don't particularly agree with the latest criticism levied in the article cited, but until the Buccos can show us more than hopes and wishes and start showing results in terms of W/L records on the major league level, all criticism is fair criticism.

Truth! I can't agree -- all criticism is not necessarily fair criticism, even if it is directed at the most inept organization in sports over the last 20 years. I saw what I felt were real results last year -- we were in 1st place in the best division in baseball at the latest point in the season than I can remember in the last 20 years, and that felt pretty damn good -- I think the team is on the right track and is making progress.
