With all of the talk about injuries in football we seem to forget that lives are lost in other sports.

Crazy thing is, EVERYBODY crashes in downhill and auto-racing. Not a question of if, but when. And they can only hope they are fortunate enough not to wreck badly.

Occurs to me if Roger was the czar of Nascar that he'd be fining everyone every time they so much as bumped another car.

Remember when they used to say that football wasn't a contact sport, it was a collision sport?

Competitive downhill skiing makes football look like a kid's game....every practice, let alone every race, takes a courage unmatched. Even racing drivers have state of the art materials and safety devices to protect them in a crash (except for those rally drivers who race within 3 feet of oak forests).

Downhill racers have a helmet ... and in this case, the helmet failed. Here's a little tribute to a man even Silverback would call a badass:

Unsurpassed for insane, out of control and excellence.

I dislocated my ankle playing old man rec volleyball, couldn't walk for 4 months, seriously, if you expect a world with no serious injuries... ever, BAN ALL SPORTS AT EVERY LEVEL AND WRAP EVERYBODY IN BUBBLE WRAP.

I think the most dangerous sport in the US based on number of deaths is golf (lightning, heart attacks).

Per participation rate, I think it's kiting, base jumping for fatal accidents.

For devastating non-fatal accidents....cheerleading.
