Drama, you know your my guy when it comes to all things draft. My SEC go to guy. I even begin to pretend I know as much about DT as you do. So I wanna trust you, I really do. So I'll approach it with cautious optimism.

I don't doubt his ability to rush passer. I need to know if he can cover RB's and TE's on 3rd down. Thats the point that scares me

LBs don't cover TEs or RBs due to athleticism, they do it because of scheme and instincts. Athleticism obviously helps, but if anyone thinks that a 6'1, 240-lb LB with a 4.67 (like Timmons) has a snowball's chance in hell of staying with Jimmy Graham or Gronk or Antonio Gates who are 6'6, 260, with 4.5 speed, they're nuts.

Scheme (being in the right position from the start of the play)
Instincts (putting yourself in the right position once you diagnose the play)

QB
5x OL
that's 6 players. Allows 5 players to run routes of some form

2 safeties
2 CBs
1 LB

that's 5 players to cover, 5 to rush the passer, with an extra dude to do one or the other. Let Timmons cover. Let Hightower kill someone. Good plan.

Brady didn't lose to the NYG twice in the Super Bowl because NYG's LBs were really good at covering. You don't stop the pass by covering well. You stop the pass by putting the QB on his back.

We always say "3rd down LB, he's gotta cover!" Why?

How about "3rd down, LB gotta eat the QB for lunch" Why would you force a guy to cover if he has the ability to put future 1st-round OTs on their asses? Hey, it'd be nice if we had someone who could actually blitz effectively, wouldn't it?

i know it's not that easy, but my point is that it's simply a different kind of weapon.

we drop guys like Woodley and Deebo into coverage. We already know the answer isn't to sit back with 7 guys in zone against a guy like Brady, it's to press and try to force him to throw the ball immediately.

I fear that we are trying to become like the Indy Colts' defense, 100% geared to take on only the pass, with ZERO THOUGHT to stopping the run.

Honest question IC. With Casey out, is there anyone along that front line who will command 2 blockers with any consistency? If not, then how the hell is Timmons going to earn his $50 million? He can't run around blocks forever, and we already know he damn sure can't defeat anyone at the point of attack. Hell, he gets stoned by RBs (NOT even FBs) on blitzes.

Yes, perhaps Hightower is stiff, but he also put up a faster 40 time than Tmimons, and is WAAAAAAAAAY damn smarter and instinctive.

IC, the dude STARTED as a true freshman for Alabama. He's been calling the signals for that defense since he was 19 years old. Tight hips is fine, but the dude is a damned football player, and I'd love to get a football player for a change, rather than athletes who did jack squat in college (just like Timmons and Ziggy)

Timmons is Rashard Mendenhall at ILB. Ridiculously athletic, poor instincts for the position, and far softer than his physical ability should dictate. He should be 10x better than he is, but until his balls drop fully, he's going to underachieve. In Timmons' case, if we don't get the next Aaron Smith and Casey Hampton....NOW...Timmons is not going to get anywhere near earning his paycheck. You'll se a lot more 2011 Timmons than you will 2010.
