Any chance Bettman steps p and tries to name the conferences after the biggest names to play in each? Lemieux, Orr, Howe, and Gretzky? Philly and Wash would hate the Lemieux thing, Chicago wouldn't stand for Howe, etc., but I wouldn't be surprised if they did something like that.

Again, I'm a traditionalist so I think they should go back to the old Division names: Adams, Patrick, Smyth, etc

I like the realignment. This is all about promoting and sustaining rivalries which I think is great for the sport. My only problem with it is the one I've had with baseball the last few years. Not really fair when the divisions aren't balanced with even numbers. But in this case it benefits the Pittsburgh franchise. 7 teams battling for 4 playoff spots is a better proposition than 8 teams battling for 4 spots.

I understand both arguments and the need for realignment.

I’m also ok with the larger “divisions”, but what I do NOT like is that in the 2nd through 4th playoff rounds you can play any multitude of teams. I would rather have Division A and B grouped in the Wales Conference and Division C and D in the Campbell…keep that separation. What are they going to do about the All Star game format?

Furthermore, I can't agree with Hacksaw about Bettman. Should you be lauded for correcting a mistake that didn't need to happen in the first place? Atlanta should have NEVER had a team to begin with, same thing with Phoenix...ridiculous attempt to place hockey with the appropriate fanbases needed.

Also can't agree with the stupid goalie trapezoid and I would argue that no play zone has lead to more injuries and headshots. And how long will it take for the no touch icing rule to be implemented? Needless and how many stupid injuries that I just can't count. Ask Pat Peake how he feels about no touch icing...

I think he should be. His realization that something is fucked and his ability to make it right again is a rarity. Think of MLB. What has Selig done for them? Not instill a cap when that's clearly the issue? Completely mishandle things like the all star game tie?

Bettman fucked up with his selection of areas for NHL teams, but Winnipeg at that current point in time couldn't support a team. I agree that Phoenix was a bad choice. I guess he wanted to see if Arizona could handle hockey. You have to think he took what he felt was right there. That's something I respect. It's not like he ever plans on moving a team to London.....yikes.

No touch icing has been a problem long before Bettman. I don't really see how the trapezoid has caused more injuries. Goalies could play those pucks long ago, but there will always be situations where there's a rush for a loose one. Hockey is a physical sport yadda yadda. Bettman seems to be taking the right steps as far as player safety goes without completely wiping some traditions in the game. Can you imagine hockey without fighting? I think if Goodell or Selig had their way, we'd have fantasy stats replacing shots and penalties on the scoreboard, a 5 minute major for touching someone, and players causing a general frustrating scene.

Either way you bring up good points as always.
