Tip of the cap. Yeah, they are in our division and I hate their guts when we play them, but they are a division foe I can respect. They have a great baseball tradition, and a very, very solid organization. Plus they kept the team I hate the most currently out of the WS.

Enjoy it while you can, Cardinals. The Buccos are going to be storming through the NL Central in 2012!

I think you have to at least put the 2011 Cardinals up there with the greatest comeback teams of all-time: 1914 Braves, 1951 Giants, 1978 Yankees to name a few. Yes, definitely, a tip of the cap. I thought for sure Texas had them Thursday night, but they kept battling back. Now just who in the fuck is Dave Freese? I hadn't really heard of him before the playoffs. Amazing.

I like Ron Washington and was pulling for him but he made some questionable moves in game 6. But that game was one for the ages. I've heard several media guys, in their 30's & 40's call it the greatest WS game ever. I was able to straighten out a few, finally got a text to ESPN Mike G to at least acknowledge he hadn't seen Maz Game 7 but some of these bloated jerks think if it happened before they were born it's not that important.

Pirates are still the last team to win a road game 7 in the World Series.

Let's not act like 105 million is chump change though. It's still more than double that of the Pirates.

12 of 13 small payroll teams didnt make the playoffs. The Diamondbacks are the lone exception and let's be honest they had no chance.

Competing consistently isn't in the cards (har har pun) for all those teams.

What about Tampa Bay? they aren't a large payroll team either. The reason teams like the Rangers, Brewers, and even the Phillies have the payroll they do is because they have had some success that has allowed them to grow revenue and increase their payrolls. These same teams were considered low payroll teams not all that long ago. The Bucs are not doomed by the economics of the game. If they improve the on field product and put more fannies in the seats they can increase payroll to a level closer to their division foes.
