NHL Center Ice is free, at least on FIOS, for the first couple weeks of the season - on Channel 1475 for me.

I guess the advantage to playing Canadian teams is the CBC stream and telecast. 10 oclock is a killer especially if you've been up since 5 AM.

What I'm looking for this game:

1)
I thought the Penguins did a great job with the forecheck and backcheck last game. I hope that continues.

2) Whether it was nerves, lack of focus, the ice, or whatever... Malkin had a rough go of it despite an assist on the Neal goal last game. I'm hoping he settles in to his pairing a little more.

3) The Penguins had strong special teams play. It will be great to see what different looks the power play shows this game. They featured quick passes, one timers, and all those good things against Vancouver.

4) Who will step up? Kennedy, Letang at points, Fleury, Cooke. Those would be my players of the game against Vancouver.

5) Speaking of Fleury, he looked strong after that junk goal. Fleury is like the Ben of the NHL. No one wants to call him an elite goaltender, he really doesn't have the save% or the press other goalies have. He has some kinks in his game... He let's up soft goals early..Ben holds onto the ball too long. Fleury is a winner. I think Fleury's best hockey is yet to come in his career. I'll be hoping for a tighter, more focused Fleury on his opening shots.

6) It will be interesting to see how the 1st line has progressed since the last game. I think Donnie B pointed out how Sullivan seemed out of place. I would have to agree. I think he really has some potential on that line.

7) With Orpik out, there is some concern again from me from the presumed Engelland/Letang line. I think the Pens mixed up defensive combinations around the 2nd period. I like Engelland and he can potentially be something more than he has shown. We'll see if that pairing improves. They certainly had their ups and downs.

oh..and how about not blowing a 2 goal lead.
