They really need to get the players into a different helmet for starter (NHL), but the game has become too fast and the equipment is not that soft padding anymore, it's hard blowmolded pvc.

Helmets arent the issue. It's the unexpected hits that are an issue. There isnt some super helmet technology thats going to stop someones brain from making contact with their skull on a hit.
As for people who believe Sid is "done". Crosby wouldn't have to be doing these shitty pointless PR press conferences if there weren't millions of people who know nothing about the subject thinking the sky is falling. The point of this press conference was for Crosby and his doctors to tell everyone to chill the fuck out. Yet you same people refuse to chill the fuck out...coming up with random bull shit like "he wasn't able to remember a question."
These aren't " homer" doctors. They are the best in the business working with state of the art technology. Sid's doctor has been working on concussion research for more than 20 years. If they say they are taking their time, they are taking their time. They have shown nothing to suggest they would go against their word on this. They say Sidney is making progress and is at a better state now than he was even three weeks ago.
Calm down.

sid should take his good old time and make the playoffs his goal time to come back, actually a couple weeks beofre that would be good, geno is back and we made the playoffs last yr with both of our stars missing
i am not worried at all, we can make a hell of a run without him and if he can come back and be sid we can win another cup

Calm down. I am completely chilled out. I think Sidney Crosby is not coming back. It's just my gut feel, as I said. But I'm not worked up about it. If he comes back, awesome! If he doesn't...well, c'est la vie.

Sid will have a full recovery. You just have to give him time. The Lindros comparison no longer applies. Nobody is throwing Sid back out on the ice too soon "because he just got his bell rung". The difference between now and then with regard to concussions and the importance attributed to them is night and day compared to Lindros' era. He'll be back, but not until he's ready.
And they had to have a presser, Sid and the team were starting to get ripped in the press because of their silence. There is simply nothing concrete to report as far as a prognostication. All the medical experts agree he will recover fully. And the Pens are making sure that happens by keeping him out. Take your time Sid. Geno and MAF will hold the fort until you get back.

That's a reasonable, and optimistic, assessment, Cap, thanks. We have to remain optimistic on all fronts here--for Sid's full and healthy recovery, and for the return of the best player in the game to our team.

Tough situation all around for Pens. They put a 20 year plan in place centered around one kid that now has hockey in his blood and scrambled eggs for Brains. By 23, he's won every award he can and probably banked $100M or so in endorsements
I think he gives it every shot to come back, but it doesn't happen. Not this year at least
The question for the hockey gurus is.......If Sid doesn't play, can Malkin be "the guy" with the wingers he'll skate with? Seems to me he needs a big body that can convert a pass. Jagr would've been nice for him

Well supposedly his training camp workouts are going well. No symptoms and he's even taken some accidental contact. We'll se. He seems pretty pumped judging by his interviews.

I'm wondering if that month's PR was to temper expectations a little bit. All I know is, Bylsma was asked for some potential lines the other day and he had Sid as his top line center.
