my league is dropping from 10 teams to 8 this year due to lack of participation by the bottom two teams last year...
draft will be serpentine with the first round based on the reverse order of finish the previous season. (i.e. champ picks last, 8th place picks first)

i feel like i'm pretty set if it's two keepers... i'll have two top-ten overall guys back in ray rice and andre johnson. if we go with three keepers i run into the tough decision between greg jennings and phil rivers, with knowshon moreno, steve breaston and shady mccoy all gunning for darkhorse consideration as well.

I think qb deep enough where you can get away from keeping Rivers. Might be nice to know if Vincent Jackson is going to be around for him to throw to before you have to decide. I'm biased living in Atl, but I'd probably keep Knowshon. Denver not going to have an explosive offense this year but if McDaniel's plan comes to fruition he could have his tripletts in Moreno, DaMa Thomas, and yes Tebow. Of course Jennings the top WR on what could be the league's top offense for years to come. Tough call.

I used to be in a league that you could keep one player but only keep them for 1 season then you had to keep a new player the next year. So getting a beast like Marshall Faulk or Randy Moss basically enabled you to have them for two seasons unless you could draft them. System worked pretty good since that allowed players back into the draft.

Good question Rhino, I'm thinking of going with 3 keepers for a new league that is starting this year.

Three is too many, IMO. Two is perfect.

Three allows a team to get stacked, maybe not in the 1st year but in a couple of years, especially if there are dumb owners around to take advantage of.

In the early 90's in an old-school style keeper league (draft was in person, lineups were called in to the commish, commish would send out a monthly newsletter with standings and current rosters - those were the days), I had Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice as my keepers, and it was almost unfair. My team was always at or near the top. I suffered massive injuries one year and ended up having to start Derek Loville at RB for half the season, and I still won it all.

I've spent the past 3 years in a league that allows you to keep 5 players, and I've decided to stay out of it this year.

The biggest problem is that only a small handful of teams have a true, feature, running back these days. Most leagues allow at least 2 RBs in the starting lineup (ours actually allowed 3). So, if you get a team that has two of those top-tier feature backs, that team's almost guaranteed to win it, or at least finish in the top 3, every year. Every other team ends up overvalueing RBs to the point that they're willing to draft unproven RBs who MIGHT win a starting position over true superstars at other positions.

I came into the league a few years after it was started, and never really got any footing in the league because I could never seem to get the RB corp needed to be competitive.

My advice to allow 3, maybe even 4, keepers. But put a cap on the number of years any specific player can be kept to keep the pool fresh. I don't like only allowing 2 keepers but that doesn't really seem like you're able to keep the identity of your team. It's definitely a tough balance, but really rewarding if you can find it.

How about keeping 3 put putting a cap on how long you can keep them before they go back into the draft pool. You can re-draft them but they need to go back into the pool. Kinda like free agency. You can resign your guys but so can other teams.

Think that might work?

i'm gonna go with two for this season and see what happens.

since i trimmed the fat and cut the league from 8 managers and 2 guys who autodrafted and never made roster moves to just 8 teams total it will leave some good players in the draft pool. i'm going with a custom serpentine draft, last place picks first, champ picks last so essentially the first few guys to pick will have three "keepers" with peterson likely to be the top pick.
