On what legal grounds can he be fined for speaking his mind and I don't care what you think of his operational savvy or anything.

One can now be fined for writing a blurb now?

On what legal grounds?

Legal? none. Hes part of a the NBA as an owner. He violated NBA rules.

NBA rules are ridiculous. Cuban got fined 100 mil just for saying in a radio interview that he was interested in signing Lebron. Kerr got fined 10k for joking that they'd look into it if he'd sign for the midlevel exception (5.8 mil a year).

David Stern is a tyrant. For all you people who complain about Goodell. Its nothing in comparison to David Stern.

If you only think the LeBron hate will last one or two years in Stainville, you really don't understand the psyche of the Cleveland fan. They have not forgiven Art Modell yet, and he's been Stone Cold Dead for at least two years. This, they will see as a crime on the same scale. At least the Steelers logo will now have LeBron's face as company when they want their fans to boo in the arena. Also, the man put himself in the best possible position to win titles. And took less money to do so. Who can argue with that, in the end?

Great move by STern Gilbert should have been fined more for being stupid. Lebron did not owe him or the city of Clevland jack. They profitted way more from Lebron playing there than the other way around. I personally LMFAO when he made the announcement and those dummies were crying and jumping around like morons. Only a complete fool would think he was going to re-sign when he held his PC in CT lmao... I hate Cleveland and now the stupid owner has assured no real superstar will ever go that toilet bowl again.. by the way I can't stand James..

Gilbert's rant was a bad move with respect to luring potential free agents, but it was a brilliant PR move with respect to the fans.

He has every basketball fan in Cleveland feeling like the victim of a horrendous crime, and has set his team up to be the rallying point for the next season or two. Now, if they don't make the playoffs within the next two seasons, then that's egg on his face. But if they do, then Cleveland could unite on the grounds of sending Lebron a giant "FUCK YOU". Sounds like a gamble, but it really isn't. Had Gilbert not published those remarks, then I think the Cleveland fanbase would have just completely written off the Cavs for the foreseeable future. Now, he's at least bought himself a season or two of manifested fan pride to try and capitalize off of. He just has one helluva of a job ahead of him to do it.

Agreed. I'm sure when he woke up the next morning he felt like he wished could have a little bit of that letter back, but not most of it. I loved much of that letter. I loved that it tapped into the fans' anger and helped turn Lebron into a Super Villain in Cleveland. Lebron deserved to be called out publicly for his actions and lack of courtesy for the fans and franchise that gave him the keys to the kingdom. Maybe he didn't owe them, but they didn't owe him either. He got rich off the money out of those fans' pockets and he was extremely well compensated by the team for his efforts on the court. Lebron fucked that franchise over to the point he sabotaged their ability to build a plan toward a productive off-season. Now they are left scrambling because he didn't bother to tell them what he's already known for months/years.

And I think players are smart enough to know the difference between a home grown superstar/savior bolting town the way he did and your typical non-Lebron UFA choosing to test the waters elsewhere......and that the owner's reaction would be much different in those respective scenarios. The Lebron situation was unique to say the least.

Colin Cowhurd is wrong every bit as much as he is right. Hell, he claimed that Bill Belichick had "saved the Browns from futility".....even though they went in toilet under his reign after the team enjoyed 2 AFCCG appearances and numerous division titles just before he got there. He must've gotten numerous emails educating him of that fact because he backed off of it pretty quick. That's why I love the "I AM research" soundbite he loves to play during commercial breaks.

He's sweeping this whole thing under the rug like Goodell did Spygate by cutting off the prospect of an investigation before even officially looking into it. After seeing the timeline of events over the years that culminated in this thing it's obvious there was serious tampering going on by both the players and the Heat ownership. Big fines, very bad PR, and possibly suspensions would've had to be handed down in the wake of this clusterfuck. I'll bet any money Lebron has known for at least months what he was doing and where he was going.

They planned it at the Olympics, Bosh, Wade, and James. But can you prover Pat Riley tampered with Lebron and Bosh? Because if you can't then it's just a lot of blowing smoke.

Also, tampering from the players? Bullshit....they're friends. They talk about their careers. They want to play together, what are you gonna do, hide them all away when the free agency period starts? Tell them to not own phones over the course of their previous contracts? Ban them from seeing each other? It's stupid and impractical. If you can prove Riley tampered with any of them, it's different, but, I doubt that's even possible.
